If they're young and only starting on their TMNT knowledge journey or being curious about those names will spark that quest, then fine, I can forgive it, but come on. Will never understand people who bother asking such simple things and wait for others to respond when they could have asked Google and had the answer in 3 seconds.

reddit became a terrible place for discussion the last few years, it's full of bots, karma farming and only one sided opinions in subreddits or you get banned. Discord really did become the real place for discussion, too bad it has to be mostly in real time.

The whole rating system is broken, if you post any opinion that differs you get downvoted so there goes your karma and how much the algorithm will show your ideas to people. And yet the stupid opinions will always be on top because they will make posts or threads that say "Who else agrees X character is underrated?" and they go ahead and post a character that is a fan favorite even if not the main character so of course all that karma farming goes towards that users "reputation".

In forums people usually went by how many posts you had, the more you had the more your opinion was worth LMAO. Then since many had high posts counts, people started to go by registration date if they werent OG their opinion was lesser.

On Reddit, people don't understand nuance and have very black and white views of the world.

A lot of the worst subs are those "Ask" subs. Whether it's asking men, women, certain nationalities, people from certain continents, etc. about their opinions about something or certain groups of people.

Fictional example: "r/Portugal hot post atm: WHAT DO PORTUGUESE PEOPLE THINK OF ROMANIA?"

...dude, I don't know. I've never read a survey about the public perception of Romania among Portuguese people. And there's no way I could ever speak for the majority of my own people

This places reputation is kinda weird to me. Granted I left in 2017 and didn’t really come back until last year. So I missed the Rise discourse, the Sophie run discourse, COVID and the 2020 election, etc.

But now that the dust has settled, I’d say this place is roughly 50/50 on liberal vs. conservative members. With plenty of neutral/other people mixed in.

I also feel like everything in the TMNT sections stays amicable. Can’t say the same for the current events section or some other GD forums haha.

Ciro honestly needs to grow a thicker skin if someone like CyberCubed scared him away from this place. CC might be eccentric but he's never aggressive to other people nor do I ever see him flaming.

To be honest I always sort of viewed most of the people that were "chased off" as the toxic weirdos themselves.

-Several oddly emotional weirdos who you just knew were little men but would reply with overly aggressive arguments as if they were chihuahuas backed into a corner.
-Another guy who used to make YouTube videos complaining about life.
-Another f'n weirdo who used to draw dicks in his spare time for fun.
-A couple of the women who were clearly living on the edge of unhappiness given their irrational outbursts to any criticism or pushback on their mania.

Honestly, by my count there are only maybe three people left here from the original group of irrational nutcases. And of those three one vacillates back and forth between "absolute f'n troll weirdo" and "occasionally he has a baseline day". And so maybe it's one or two and not even three.

Everyone else at least presents as somewhat normal. I mean honestly, I think it could be argued that many of the people who go elsewhere and complain about this place were actually a primary part of the problem here at some point. There are still some maladaptive savants here. You can see it in the replies, the deflection and the childlike way that people will occasionally not address you - sort of like if you were face to face with them in a circle they'd look away all the time and only respond to certain people. So, yes I'm drawing a fine line here between "emotional clown" and "problem person", I suppose.

I don’t think this place is dead at all, considering the state of TMNT in general.

Personal issues aside, I left in 2017 ultimately just because the 2012 show was over and the comics were getting bad. Then Rise and the Sophie run happened almost simultaneously and you know the rest.

In addition to the mods evidently going a little nuts with the ban hammer during that period, it can also take eons for new members to get approved. That also doesn’t help.

I think the Drome is fine and I’m very glad it’s still here. I just wish TMNT would shape up lol

This forum is as "dead" as it was in 2009 around the time the 2k3 series ended and Turtles Forever was months away from coming out. It was also before the Viacom sale and the 25th TMNT anniversary ceremony went a little under the radar.

It's normal. No current cartoon or movie = less activity. Just like whenever a new cartoon or movie comes out, it gets a new influx of users.

There's literally a new cartoon that will air it's second season in a few months. We had a new movie with a huge marketing push, we barely got any new members and the few that did Andrew called them plants and they stopped posting

When 2003 ended there was nothing, not the same thing. Forums are a dead way for fans to communicate, all the fans are on Reddit, Facebook groups, discord server etc. there's more fans discussing the non-news now I'm these other platfoems than there ever was when this forum was at it's most active.

Gen-Z doesn't come to forums. Gen-Z stays on youtube, twitter, or sometimes reddit. And most of them are now on exclusive discords which you need to be invited to, so nowadays you can't even join a new community unless you know people.
