snake was only like 12 years old when he first came here, he was probably the youngest person on the whole forum when he first arrived. That's also what I mean, you never see any "kids" on forums anymore. Even teenagers for that matter.

When was the last time you saw a 14-16 year old on a traditional forum like this one? When we were teens we came to forums because that's all there was at the time, social media didn't exist so there was nowhere else to discuss fandoms like games/tv shows/movies, etc. Nowadays teens can go elsewhere.

I'm so old I remember when youtube first came out in 2005. Blows my mind we had a whole internet pre-youtube for a long time.

Always funny to me that people don't recognize forums as being some of the original social media. Back when people were more inclined to have actual discussions and could be bothered to put in the effort to do it.

If a youngster showed up and actively had conversations I'd prob be a little impressed, given how people seem to communicate via social media anymore... Much of it not counting for much and the rest is just memes. Not to say it's only on younger people, too many older ones have devolved to not having the will to summon up the effort for much beyond that anymore either.

Imagine all the kids who just grew up with youtube always existing. To them life before youtube must seem like the pre-history.
I don't blame them, I used to judge things just as harshly when I was a kid, "What do you mean you didn't have computers?" "What do you mean you didnt have cable tv?".
At least Gen Z will feel just as bad as we do now when Gen Alpha starts to tell them "What do you mean you didn't have AI before you were born? were you cavemen"?

When 2003 ended there was nothing, not the same thing. Forums are a dead way for fans to communicate, all the fans are on Reddit, Facebook groups, discord server etc. there's more fans discussing the non-news now I'm these other platfoems than there ever was when this forum was at it's most active.

Sure there’s a new cartoon, but:

1. The whole season drops as once, which really isn’t as conducive to discussion versus one episode a week.
2. It’s a tie-in to a generally disliked movie series.
3. But as a tie-in, the episodes are presented as made up stories by the characters and not really canon.
4. It’s pretty bad in its own right.


I wasn’t around for the MM release, but there absolutely were plenty of plants here during the PD. But if Andrew making a joke ran anyone off… that’s a brittle spirit, as Dave Chapelle would say.

Yeah, I don't keep up with the TMNT property anymore, so I'm pretty out of the loop. But it's not so surprising that I was unaware of there being a current cartoon.

I barely watched the Nick toon when it came out. I was busy with university and the aesthetics and and creative decisions of the show did not look/sound appealing to me. And Bay Turtles killed all my hope for TMNT. So yeah... Shredder's Revenge and the Cowabunga Collection are the only modern TMNT related stuff I've consumed.

Honestly, by my count there are only maybe three people left here from the original group of irrational nutcases. And of those three one vacillates back and forth between "absolute f'n troll weirdo" and "occasionally he has a baseline day". And so maybe it's one or two and not even three.

Everyone else at least presents as somewhat normal. I mean honestly, I think it could be argued that many of the people who go elsewhere and complain about this place were actually a primary part of the problem here at some point. There are still some maladaptive savants here. You can see it in the replies, the deflection and the childlike way that people will occasionally not address you - sort of like if you were face to face with them in a circle they'd look away all the time and only respond to certain people. So, yes I'm drawing a fine line here between "emotional clown" and "problem person", I suppose.

Tip: Don't go into the Current Events and avoid some threads in TV and Movies. That's where all the political **** is. If you stay outside of those you'll be fine.

As for the TMNT sections, I don't see where the issue is, personally. This is the only place on the internet where most TMNT fans do not defend garbage like the Bay movies and other crap put out under the Viacom/Nick banner.

reddit is basically the biggest forum on the internet, it's why individual fansites/forums like this place have died. Even all the gaming forums I visited in the early 2000's like IGN, gamefaqs, etc. all largely died down due to reddit.

It seems these days most people are on reddit, twitter, or just youtube and separate discords. Nobody comes to forums anymore.

The thing is most TMNT news (except for the games) has been bad news. Especially now with them cancelling the Last Ronin for yet another kid-friendly reboot.

We're day one fans, not newbs. The big problem people seem to have an issue with us is that lately newer TMNT products have been crap and people want us to just shut up, smile and ask for more just because it has the label slapped on it.

Yeah, I just want to see thoughtful posts whether they’re positive or negative. Someone blindly jacking off to something is just as annoying as a hater trashing something with nothing to back it up.

I hated almost every single issue of the Jason Aaron run, and aired my grievances in the threads. But I tried to be articulate when criticizing the writing and always praised the art.

Rise took a long time to grow on me and the Sophie run is objectively bad. But I think the discourse being “TMNT is WOKE now, I’m mad!” turned a lot of people off.
