Raph on his own
We all know Raph is the careless hothead of the group. While Leo and Don preffer to plan and study the situation first, Raph preffers to rush right in headfirst and get himself and the others in trouble.
Question is, does Raph act this careless when he's in a solo story? It seems to me in the 2k3 show at least, he's more careful tactful and plans ahead a bit more when he's on his own, than when he's with the others and under Leo's orders. Even in Secret of the Ooze, for that scene of trying to sneak into the Foot hideout, Raph seemed to be the more careful one compared to the more overanxious Keno. Has there ever been a comic or story of Raph by himself where his own temper caused him to screw up and get himself or Casey, Shadow or whoever's with him in trouble? |

Well he got himself in trouble in Secret of the Ooze. I mean he goes out with Keno and ends up being captured by Shredder.

I think that situations where he is on his own bring out the judicious aspect of him. I honestly don't think Raph is quite as impulsive as Mikey. Without Leo or Donnie to make plans, Raph has to become more self-reliant and use analytical faculties he usually does not rely on.

Those eps he's on his own, like Lone Raph and Cub and Across the Universe, he seems to know well what he's doing when it comes to strategy and self-sufficiency.
Well, at least he did his and his brothers' job of finding the ooze and Foot headquarters, while the others were taking too much time moving...he only stuck his neck out in getting captured in order to let Keno escape and find the others, whom he knew could come and save him, sometimes risks like that have to be taken. Kinda like when he got in that fight with Rynokk in The Big House, may seem hot-headed, but technically he's providing the others a distraction so they can swipe a key card, not his fault they failed.

They found the home, then it's a matter of taking the time to move their stuff into it...meanwhile, the longer they take, the more opportunities their giving the Foot to implement their plans with the ooze...it's a problem that needed immediate attention, Raphael gave it that.

When Raph's with the group, he probably feels all the well thought-out strategies and back-up plans are left to Leo and Don and he can be as reckless as he wants and he knows Leo or Don will figure something out. When he's by himself or has no chance of telling his brothers where he is if something were to happen to him, he probably feels he has to plan because he's entirely on his own and can't depend on his brothers if something happens. I think the same can be said about Mikey or maybe even Don when by himself. Mikey would probably be a little less of a showoff and try to be more Leo-esque because he can't depend on them. Don, well, I don't think he'd change much, he'd probably use a lot of technology and whatnot.

Taking risks are part of his and his brothers' jobs as ninjas. And no actually, Shredder wouldn't kill him, he'd still need him alive to use as bait to get the others, Shredder knows getting rid of one will do know good, he has to get them all. And Raphael knows the others can take care of themselves.

I personaly think the turtles should have more solo attention than "team" attention. Because I feel to a degree that the whole team aspect is to structured and confining and that it some times limits the turtles from acting out to their full potenticial. I've noticed some of the most character driven plots in scenarios where one of the turtles are acting on their own with out the other turtles around to lean on, where they exibit more facets to their character and potenticial than when they are all working as a team and are stiflied by the hiarchy (spelling?) of the team.
Thats my opinion though. I know others will disagree with me.

Well, maybe so. But personally, if I kidnapped someone for a ransom or something, I wouldn't rid myself of the hostage before getting what I want, cause that could completely screw it up and would certainly lessen my chances of getting what I want. We'll just agree to disagree.

Well, a ransom can be something besides money...in that case, his ransom was the other three turtles. And in the movies about this, the whole goal of the good guys is to get back the hostage without giving the criminal what he wants.

Well, in fact, and this is why I've never posted my picture or disclosed info in my profile...
Spoiler:
And about what I've been saying ToTheNines, Raphael's plan worked, right? They discovered the foot's headquarters, where the ooze was, and the two creations Shredder had up his sleave, and then escaped scot-free. So I think Raphael's strategy paid off.

Guys guys you're all forgetting one classic element. The classic "bad guy holding hostage thinking he'll succeed but will ultimately fail when the support arrives" scene. We've seen it all before. Quite simple really.
