IDW TMNT #1 1:50 Sketch Variant

So after checking with the people I needed to check with, I got the ok to show these (since they actually haven't been shipped yet). New to my collection, these are 1:50 sketch variants, signed and sketched by Kevin. If you look carefully, these particular 4 line up. Not realizing this at the time of the photo, I put them in the wrong order. As they are now, the correct order should be 3,4,1,2. These books are currently at the CGC being graded, but I will take more photos when they return.

(The orange dots just happen to be on the poly bags that they are in)

I think they are lined up wrong in the picture...Raph is on one end, Donnie on the other. It should go: Don, Mike, Leo, Raph.

But you knew that...right?

Dude those are awesome and I am guessing you will place them in a frame and hang them on your wall? Which will add to the awesomeness of it all.

How is the CGC going to grade these, is it going to be possible to get them SS with a signature already on them?

Under normal circumstances, no. Because the process for the vast majority of these books is going to go [Kevin][Distributor][Comic Store][Consumer], the CGC will grade them as a green qualified label since they did not see the signing.

However; these particular 4 did not come from the stock of 400, but rather from Kevin's personal allotment, and signed by Kevin in front of a CGC witness at LBCC. So these may end up being the only 4 to ever get a Signature Series designation.

They are 1:50 retailer incentives. Which means that for every 50 copies of TMNT #1 the store ordered, they get one of these for free. So if you want one you'll have to talk to your local store, or wait for them to hit ebay.

maybe this is the wrong place to ask this...but maybe it ain't so wrong after all..since you mentioned it, just what is the cgc grading system good for?I have only discovered this in comic book reviews on the internet a while ago...previously to that I have never come accross this...this is just an official grading of the quality of your comic's shape, isn't it?...for instance you buy a superman #1 from 1938 on the flea market and want to freezeframe this baby for all eternity you go to the cgc people and they decide what condition your book is and depending from that judgement you can go and see for yourself how much it is worth in money....
so if this is correct, why do you do that here if you're planning on hanging them on your wall?.....now, remember, I don't want to critize here or judge I just wish to learn from you....
greetings
marcel

p.s.:they look furocious!!!!!

The CGC doesnt just determine the grade of the book. They also encapsulate the book in a protective shell to make sure the book stays in the condition. If the books are removed from their case, the grades are instantly invalid. People get books CGC graded for a lot of reasons. Some of them are:

1. Physical Preservation of the book
2. Signature Authentication
3. So the condition of the can't be disputed
4. It increases the value of the book
5. It looks cool
6. It helps determine the value of the book for insurance purposes

Here are some CGC books:

The CGC will grade just about any comic book that isn't printed completely in black and white and is not hard cover. Aside from that, you can use their service for any book you want to. However; most people only grade rare or expensive books due to the price of grading. Any further questions you have about the CGC can probably be answered better via their website: http://www.cgccomics.com
