What ever happened to Dawn of the Ninja?

Wasn't it intended to be a fan movie, but then changed to a comic? What happened?

He came out with one issue but it's gone from the internet now. For some reason he paid his whole life's savings to get the art on #1 done, and then that was that.

Damn. That sucks. How does someone go broke over 1 issue?

I mean I'm not too knowledgeable on these things, but art for 1 issue of a comic shouldn't be your whole life savings, right?

Watching this go down the toilet was one of my favorite things.

If it wasn't for that super pretentious trailer where the guy is interviewed by his wife about the movie and they revealed a title they'd had printed (this is when it was a "movie") I might have felt bad for him.

I missed this entire thing as it was going on, so seeing a bit of that video my only takeaway is that I'm crushin' on wifey.

EDIT: Skimmed some'a that thread, and yikes, the salt. Remind me to never, ever let you guys know what I'm up to.

Do you know that for a fact, or is it just an inference adjacent to "Guy blew his entire life savings on an un-publishable fan comic"?

Granted, that wouldn't be a huge logical leap by any means. I've seen marriages end over a LOT less than twenty grand or whatever it was he put in. Still... ouch, if true.

See, that's why you never gush about The Wife, especially not The Hot Wife. If it don't work out, you look like a goober. Skimming that thread, the dude ended up in a loop where his entire default deflection was, "Wife's hot, love my life!" And that was kinda cringe. But if she did end up leaving him, that'd be even worse. It got to a point where it seemed like "At least I still have my hot wife!" was his only life preserver in that whole mess.

But again, I have my doubts. She didn't immediately leave him after he whipped out that printout in the "movie" interview... so unless that "huge build, disappointing reveal" was some kinda metaphor for their bedroom relationship as well, I'm not gonna believe she left him just because you say so. What's your source, Jack Ryder?

Both things are true. The former because he told us that's what happened (basically), the latter because he's clearly no longer with her on his FB and married to someone else.

This was the quote from 2012: "As you may or may not have known, I have personally paid for the development of DOTN up unto this point. I’ve managed to pay for the first two chapters, but I cannot afford anything more than this. It is an estimated cost of $15,000 per chapter for writing, pencils, colors, and letters. I use the word “estimated” because everything outside chapter 2 is not finalized and the page count may vary for the other chapters. There are 13 chapters in total, which means we have 11 more chapters to complete once the second is done. This is an estimated cost of $165,000 to complete the book. I’m not taking a single penny for myself or even trying to recoup the $30,000+ of my life savings I’ve already spent on this project. This book will be free to anyone who wants to read it!"

And I only peeked at his FB because I was curious if he "made it" in the industry in some manner. Nope.

Why the hate?

I mean, it's pretty goofy and naive, but the intentions were good and they shot for the moon.

But, oh man: The "hot wife" defense sure is painful. Buddy of mind did the same thing before she cheated on him with the best man.
Seemed like he was compensating when he found out a group of us were vacationing in Japan, and went on a social media binge of "hot wife, cool life", to make himself feel better, in my mind at least. The timing and behavior seemed to match up.

Then that happened.

It was sort of a "revenge of the nerd" scenario, in which he ended up with someone he felt was really hot, after not having much success, and gained some pride from that fact. I mean, she wasn't actually hot though, imo, but it's subjective.

Now that he realizes she was/is insane, his thing is "I'm telling you man, don't date hot girls", as if I never have dated a hot girl lol. Seems like an attempt at a jab, tbh.
I'm thinking "bro, no, I have and will, just don't date a hot/crazy girl. Or at least don't marry her."

I know, on the surface it may seem like a lot of people just being petty... but no, there's more to this. At every turn that guy (his artist was no sweetheart, either) was condescending, patronizing and even duplicitous. Even beyond just his conduct on this board, early on Luke hit me up and acted as though he wanted to involve me in his super secret elite club working on the movie script when it was a movie (it was never a movie). As I was looking over things, I told him it all sounded pretty horrible, like the opposite of something with TMNT I'd be interested in, but I'd be happy to give notes because I appreciated the ambition. It turns out he wasn't actually interested in any notes or suggestions of any kind... I was just supposed to fawn over being in his elite club and getting inside knowledge so I would probably come back to the board and cheerlead for him. Well, I'm not his bitch. Also at one point he had seven threads about the comic.

Also amusing... after leaving Luke when he blew his life savings on "Dawn of the Ninja," his "hot wife" became the CEO of a retirement/401K/money managing company. I wonder what the inspiration was?

Hey, good for her.

Ahhh m'kay, I legit had no idea and that's why I asked. Ouch, ah well. Is the new wife also hot? That may be a slight consolation for him, if nothing else...

See, I just plain say "Don't gush about The Wife", period, even if she's not hot. It's just plain tempting fate no matter what she looks like. My wife was never "hot", although she kept well in high school, and we USED to have a great relationship, BUT... I made the mistake of both 1. Telling people it was a great relationship and that I was happy (NEVER LET ANYONE KNOW YOU'RE HAPPY, THE UNIVERSE HATES THIS AND WILL PUNISH YOU!!!), and 2. Trusting that it would remain so, despite the universal law of Bitches Be Crazy. So as generally happens, once things got nice and "comfortable" she gained a ton of weight, lost her goddamn mind, and made it her full-time job to tell me and anyone who'll sit still what an awful, mean, terrible, heartless and cruel person I am, for saying things like "Y'know, you go shopping every few weeks and you ALWAYS forget to put the grocery bags in the car, and you always end up crying about it, so... maybe just put the bags in the car so they're there, and stop setting yourself up like this?" SUCH AN ASSHOLE, YOU GUYS!

Just sayin'. Sometimes it takes longer than others, but whenever I scroll FB and see a bunch of people publicly gushing over their relationship... within 5 years that sh*t's deader than disco, every time.

Just don't gush about the "bae", end of story. If you're genuinely happy and want it to last, stifle that sh*t. Talking it up just jinxes it. A TRUE "stable marriage" is two people who share a domicile but ideally almost never interact or see each other outside of dinner and perhaps a quick romp before bed. Those types make it to the end, if you actually do dumb sh*t like spending any time with the person you're just gonna end up wanting each other dead before too long. There's a Right Way and a Wrong Way to do this sh*t. Wrong Way is expecting anything more than some tax breaks and some occasional laundry done. Even that's probably too much to expect, frankly.
-------------

As for the guy himself, eh. A fool and his money are indeed soon parted, that's no shocker.

His earlier spiel about "You just gotta HOPE" was what killed me. Like dude, that "hope" sh*t's for comic books and little kids, in Real Life you need a LOT more than "hope" if you wanna keep your shirt in any area of the entertainment industry. Like I don't know much about the minutiae of Andrew's fan projects compared to This Guy's, but as an outsider looking in I'd have to say from over here that Andrew's seem like the "Here's How To" example, and this dude would be the "What NOT To Do" example.

Like, when I was 8 I started drawing a (very obviously terrible, because I was 8 years old) "fan comic" of an original character that I was gonna sell to DC and become a millionaire. That ceased immediately when I read somewhere that DC doesn't accept solicitations. Okay, pens back in the box, move on. When it's futile and hopeless, you don't keep headbutting the brick wall, you say, "Well, what's a thing I CAN succeed at?" Sounds like this guy was just hoping his pitch was SO GOOD that this billion-dollar corporation would upend its entire way of doing business just to indulge his super-neato idea. Which... well, yeah, that was never gonna happen.

I'unno. All the stuff is dead links so I have no idea what it even would have been. Probably not something I would have cared too much about either way, but yeah, seems like a textbook case of someone who should have had much more managed expectations, not just "hope".

To be fair, a "concerned citizen" showed me the guy's new wife and she also looks okay.

The Hot EX Wife is still hot but she went blonde and I can't really say it entirely suits her. But that's subjective.

The new wife isn't bad, to be fair. I wouldn't call it a lateral move, though. That ex is all kinds of wow.
