I'm working on an action figure re-paint right now, and I've run into a problem with the eyes.

As you can see, my latest victim is none other than Azure Turtle!! Trouble is, the ninja turtle figures are all growling and looking fierce. Not exacty consistant with Azure's nature. This wasn't really an issue until I got to trying to paint the eyes! How to differentiate between the white bandana and whites of his eyes?

First I tried just lining the eye holes with black. I got something like this: |> <| It just didn't look right. I tried putting a brown iris in there. Still didn't look right. Then I whited it all out and tried what you see in the photos above, intending to do the irises again. But then I looked at it and thought it looked anime style. I added a "smile" line on each side of his mouth, and suddenly he was a happier looking turtle.

Opinions? Leave it alone? Keep trying?

(BTW, I feel I should mention that the colors are a little off in this pic. He's deeper blue than it shows. Once I've finished him I'll take photos in natural light.)

Well, the face looks good. If it's the effect you want, I say keep it. A suggestion though. You tried outlining his eyes in black, but I guess it didn't work for you. If you wanted, I'd suggest doing the same with a light gray. A very thin line. Won't be as bold and outstanding as black. Or maybe make his bandanna an off-white.

OPINION #2.

i love the "GENKI" look. The key to ANY art project is knowing when to stop. The anime look is simple, efective, sweet and reminds me of the "mango smilie" he always uses: :anime:

oh... a good choice on the body model too... Don-Don makes a very SWEEEEET Azure :wink: D-kun is the only one of 'em with closed lips AND a grimace on BOTH sides of his head. How many coats of white before you couldn't tell that the bandana had been purple?

I did a "primer" layer of light blue/grey on Don first. It still took about 4 coats of white though. The blue required the least amount of coats.

The anime look wasn't my original intention, but I'm liking it. I wish I could find all of my extra turtles now...I could use another one to play with.

Well, I finally broke down and bought me a set of Prismacolor "professional" colored pencils. I haven't quite gotten the hang of them, gotta revisit a few of those tutortials, but they sure are fun to play with. Pretty, vibrant colors. Plus some sketches of Kali's new tie-dye look from the RP. And some misc. stuffs.

About the web page, you should, at least before the Fan Art Awards roll around next year... er, this year. :lol: A simple list and links to the pictures work well enough, no need for fancy stuff. HTML ain't that hard, I used to use a page builder, but basic code is kinda fun once you get the hang of it. Here's the tutorial I use http://www.annabella.net/html.html
(A tip I give out is to keep a blank link template in the code. It won't show up on the page and you can refer to and copy it whenever you need it.)

Yeah, I've been told that too, usually for photos and other things. Dunno if you have Photoshop, but that program lets you save an image that was scanned at 72 res, as a high quality level JEPG. I find a lower quality JPEG looks fuzzy in comparison to ah high quality one.

For art wark, it's usally better to scan this at a higher res (like around 100), or just save it at a higher level JPEG so it looks nice and crisp like an animation cell. At least this is what I found if you ever scan in inked lines to be computer colored. :D

Bwaha! I updated my page! Since the results of GW's contest came in, I put up my color entry on my site. Aside from that one thing, that's all I did there.

Anyhow, I have officially started a new fic (Yeah, I know, I really should concentrate on the ones I've already started, buuuuut.... :roll: ). Although Kameko is in it, it is an alternate Kameko -- sort of an alter-verse thing. Just make note, when you read it, that it does not have ANYTHING to do with my regular timeline. Although there is crossover potential. Heh, we'll see. :D So, I wrote the prologue this afternoon, and it should be on the web tommorrow afternoon sometime. With any luck, I'll actually have a full chapter written by then too. Maybe. ....Okay, with a LOT of luck...

k, updates, added a few pics to the Overt Originality gallery. One is of Irma updated for the present (that skirt just had to go. it was terribly unflattering.) and a few pics from Midnight Snacks that are also posted in the fanfiction pages, but the're all together on the art page. hooraaay!

NP TC. ;) But, I don't see your new artwork. :( As for the image in your sig, go to your profile page and edit your sig. Use the img code. For example, insert the url for the image here. That should do it.
