They didn't add muscles between, usually it's smooth, as if it was a shell bridge there. And it's 2014, the new show have shell bridges, the previous show (4kids) had hints at a shell bridge, although it was regularly skin colored. The previous movies had bridges.

This isn't a cartoon or a comic, it's supposed to pass as live-action, they are meant to be turtles. How do you explain how their shells work design-wise. I highly doubt the designers actually took the time to study real turtles, it seems more they looked at TMNT designs only and worked on that. Cause a turtle shell can not be separated like the PD turtles have them.

A turtles shell is their ribcage and spine fused together covered in scutes. There is no room for caving in on their sides, and then have overlapping intercostal muscles over the ribs.

And yes, all designs that lacks a clear shell bridge as well as high defined muscles are bad. Unless they re-work the entire shell structure to make it into something different, and the only example I can think of that did that is Zulli's designs, as he reworked the turtles shell anatomy completely, and not just giving the plastron a bodybuilder muscle effect.

Thwere have been so many different turtles, wolf series has the no connection of Shell, ie separate shell and plastron

Larger size ha been dinner before, ripped huge muscles had been done before, the more "realistic" look has been done before, clothing has been done before,

Yes you can say you prefer other versions but this new look is nothing we haven't seen in some way shape or form before,

and real turtle c can't walk upright and there shells are ridgid and not flexible so then performing and kind oh marital arts and acrobatics wouldn't be possible they developed something that would allow for all these things while keeping aspect of there turtle side

Thee are turtles with soft shells, and turtles that have a hinge in their shell to close it.

The first live-action turtles had the shell bridge and that worked fine.

The shell just doesn't look connected on the PD Turtles, it looks fake and just hangs there with no real attachment besides being a backpack. And the lack of shell bridges wouldn't make the turtles any more able to bend their backs, the carapace is still a part of their spine and ribcage. Removing the bridges and add skin and muscles between the plastron and carapace just makes it more implausible then the concept of TMNT already is, but also not possible within the context of a bipedal turtle.

And yet even they had several different version some of them the shells had segments for flexibility if you watch bts and production photos. There's a part of the final fight were you see one of the turtles shells has a lower portion that's not fully connected and is meant to be flexible.

To be it doesn't look at all like its just "hanging" there it attached to the back. It just to me looks more accurate and more realistic for a turtle Henry to be much now flexible while still retaining it routes of being a turtle

Okay. How is it attached, and how does it work, how is the PD Turtles Spine and ribcage functional?

Why does it look more realistic, when the shell isn't anything remotely close to any turtles and is an impossibility. Especially when there are such thing as turtles with a more flexible shell, an entire family of turtles: Trionychidae. And they still have their shell bridges, cause the shell bridge isn't some weird attachment that can just be removed, it is a part of the turtle's ribcage, the ribcage of a turtle is a part of the shell.

Sam, that's a WEAK argument, and you know it.

The suits with segmented shells were for the stunt performers to allow a bit more ease of movement. These are full body, animatronic, costumes we're talking about.

In this new film, the turtles are 100% CGI. There is NO need to take the actor into account (i'm not even getting into possible likenesses in the turtles faces to the actors portraying them) when the ENTIRE turtle we'll see on screen is created in a computer. Donnie's proton pack and multiple sets of head phones, Mikey's shell necklace and shades, Leo's armor.....EVERYTHING is drawn digitally in a computer.

Also, another Chelonia with a flexible shell, the Pancake Tortoise. It got openings between the bony plates to add flexibility. AND a flexible bridge.

Boom. I probably spent more research time looking up the softshells, hinge-backs and pancakes then the creature designers did when making these designs.

There's been some versions where the TMNT don't have shell-bridges, or what ever it's called. That doesn't mean it's not okay to dislike it due to personal taste... but there's no point in arguing too hard-core about it. It's creatures that's basically turtle anatomy mixed with human anatomy, it doesn't have to be 100% faithful in either direction. Some varying blends is interesting and some will off course hit our own personal tastes better then others, it's only natural. (I'm slightly bias to the new version... I don't mind the lacking shell-bridge that much, reminds me of the 2k3 series which is one of my fave looks for them)

Agreed. Same reasoning applies to the lips and noses, but I don't expect that to stop it from bothering anyone.

EDIT______
But I agree with Sam. Unless they want rubbery flexible shells that don't look real, the shell and plastron needed to be re-thought for the sake of mobility. The Nick turtles bend all willy-nilly, nobody really cares. But in live-action, people would call foul. Regular people, not just us.

and completely changing "someones"/ "somethings" bone structure in favor of looks

i can ignore the faces but the missing shell piece still bothers the crap out of me

its like removing someones rib cage

I also agree with this.. Unfortunately if you understand this concept and defend it your told that your arguments/opinions are...weak. The fact of the matter is that it is what it is. It's not going to change. If you hate it.. fine. If you like it, fine. But it's all a matter of preference. No opinion is superior to another.

The whole "misfit crooks with the chance to do good" thing has been done to death. But so has the typical superhero story. The characters are part of why those stories can be told a hundred times, and these guys look like fun. This kind of story would almost never interest me. But I'll see it.

Plus, I'm somebody who can't skip a Marvel movie for fear of missing something important...

As some one else said They just need to be re worked Im sorry you disagree There would be no Physical way in which Ninja turtle would really be able to function.

It is No Seriously Its on thing to have a completely non flexible Shell become pretty much silly puddy while moving in a cartoon, it another to try and pull off the same thing in s live action movie. Why would they add these things to the costumes For added mobility right then why not make something more Mobile in a newer version. Its not a weak argument its just an argument you dont agree with.

In favor of realism and emotion yes im sorry and thats the reasoning behind these changes I haven't ever seen a more emotive, expressive turtle then i have with these new designs

Well put. I really liked the first trailer.. but after watching the second one I felt less excited. I don't really get it either.. I understand that it's a marvel film. But saying either one will destroy the other is pure fanaticism. I've been guilty of it in the past.. I felt the need to defend my favorite franchise after watching others totally dismiss it. In reality.. no one knows which film will out perform the other. They both have potential. But to count out TMNT? to just dismiss it outright?
