Hello Technodrome, I think the issue is how realistic will they look in the world they have created. People are using examples for this world. The world of the movie might be perfect for the turtle designs. Putting the 90's turtles in this film would look unrealistic to the 2014 world. Just like putting FW turtles into the new IDW comic would be silly. I can see why people think they look ugly or have to much baggage, but lets hope in the 2014 world it works.

Good to see I've missed absolutely nothing the past two months. I could set my watch to you people. The name-calling and insults and generalizations and overall nasty comments from the cats who are "Just trying to stay positive!" are always a nice touch. Stay classy, fellas.

Nah, change for the sake of change is a bad thing almost 100% of the time, aaaaand, I'unno why anyone ever pretends that isn't true. Ah well.

I am sorry, but it doesn't make sense. World of 2014 is not very different from 1990s. Classic Turtles designs would've worked as good as they always did in realistic setting.

Your childish attempts to irk people by continuing to call them Shrekle's and giant monstrosities I also find amusing.
You need some help, if you take such things as personal insult.

Quote:
You've got that right lol. I thought this was someone else's response to your post but it's not. It's all you Smh
And this guy talked some stuff about me using childish arguments to irk people. Now THAT'S amusing.

Quote:
I love it when people like you call this " lazy " just bc it's not the cut and paste duplicate that you want.
So using actually good stuff that worked in the past is "cut&paste" now? LOL. I bet all this time, when Batman looked remotely similar to his classic apperance is "cut&paste" job, which doesn't deserve any recognition.
It doesn't make sense, but on the other a lot of things don't, when it comes to people who protect every little decision regarding this movie.

Quote:
Once again another double standard lol.
But of course!!
I've yet to see sheep being as rude as AF, who constantly insults everyone, including mods.

TMNT has some pretty weird things going on in all franchises, and being thrown into a humvee and making a dent isn't the biggest 'out there' thing.

However, I see where this is all coming from. Size. They are huge. I don't think everyone's real problem is 'Raph smash'. It's that, when we see this big turtle size, we think of Hulk. We see him hit ONE DUDE with the back of his hand, and we see that comparison of Hulk. And because we haven't seen any martial arts yet, we blame the film of being 'Raph smash'. Isn't that a reach? It is at least for now, since we've hardly seen anything. And I don't think everyone's true problem is the Humvee being smashed, it's more the fact that, again, they are huge.
See, I don't follow this at all, though. You may be right that there is some legit martial arts stuff that we haven't seen yet, but all that the promotional materials have shown us so far is "Raph Smash" style action. These trailers and ads were specifically edited to showcase the movie's style, tone, and content. It's not a "reach" to judge based on the material we're specifically being given to make a judgment of the movie. If they do have something that better represents the actual movie and they haven't shown us, that's just bad marketing. Nobody is required to give this movie the benefit of the doubt in spite of that - and you can blame the studio for that, not the fans.

And a million pouches and straps all over, and glowing eyes, and guns half the size of their bodies. Ninja Turtles to the extreme!

...how so? Updated versions would be necessary, of course, but those designs were able to effectively "work" alongside human actors 24 years ago. There's no reason something similar wouldn't be able to now.

im honestly having a hard time understanding where all the hostility the some of the people on the positive side seem to be expressing toward those who aren't on board with this is coming from.I swear there seem to be some people here who actually take offense to the idea of people being against this movies alterations as if we're supposed to except any and all changes made by a movie team without question. The simple truth it that by all appearances it seems this movie has made some substantial changes to characters and concepts that go against the reasons many people (myself included) were ever interested in the turtles in the first place. Then they release a poor trailer NOT ONCE BUT THREE TIMES which does absolutely nothing the try to alleviate worries and concerns people have. I'm still trying to wrap my head around why the most prominent action shot in a tmnt trailer was rapheal totaling out a motor vehicle through sheer force of impact. something that you would not expect form the turtles no matter how (arguably) cool it looks because beyond being man sized they are in no way super. plain and simple this only looks like a turtle movie on the most superficial level. I like to think im a pretty easy going fan I never go into an adaption expecting a copy/paste story but what I do expect is for the the people involved to stay true to the spirit of the characters, their abilities, and their motivations while telling whatever new stories they want to tell. kind of like what nick and idw are doing. telling new stories using old concepts in new ways, creating their own characters and plot twists. staying true to what's come before while doing their own thing and getting well deserved appreciation for it. I can't help but question why it was felt that that so much change was need for this film adaption and the answers that came to mind are far from satisfactory.

I just heard someone compare the new designs, of turtles with clothing that fit their personality to Batman and Robin. The clear cut homosexual Batman, with sculpted nipples, and molded ass cheeks on his costume. Seriously, this just happened. I'm done with these boards. Wow.

We're all entitled to our opinions, and we're entitled to voice them. Getting bent out of shape and hostile about stuff like this is exactly what caused so many problems the last time.

Relax. Not everybody has to agree with you. And that's fine.

Bat-nipples, turtle-abs. Seems equally silly to me.

If you're referring to my post, you're completely misconstruing what I said. :p

You could be dead right on this. Please do understand I'm making hypothetical speculations and I'm fully open to the possibility that all these will be addressed and well done.

Thank GOD Marvel doesn't come from Hollywood lol. "Wipes sweat from forehead"
All these other superhero films are no more "logical" than this one should be. People are just picking and choosing..
Again, a big key for me is internal consistency. The key reason I favor Avengers climax over Man of Steel is the lack of internal consistency and missed opportunity in MoS that wasn't present in Avengers; at least not so glaring that it contradicted what I felt was established for the title character.

But Michael Bay himself will never get a benefit of the doubt from me! Cuba! Freakin' Cuba! Narcotics cops invade CUBA!!!

But I will give credit. I thought Transformers 1 & 2 were bad and 3 was the best, yet general consensus (Rotten Tomatoes, Meta Critic) love the first and hate 2 and 3. And yet, despite that collective opinion, every one makes more money than the last.

And don't even mention how much cash Resident Evil makes. My brain can't even comprehend that one.

I am obviously referring to the forum. I've experienced it first hand many times. " Wow how dare you criticize the original film to defend this crap". People preach about tolerance but when someone else criticizes something they feel is sacrosanct or untouchable tolerance goes right out the window it seems.
The original has a lot of defenders, but you said originals, plural, so I assumed you meant all three. Some defend Secret of the Ooze and even like it better than the first one. I watched Ooze over Memorial Day weekend.... ehhhh, no. I like the first way better.

I disagree with most complaints on the original too, though. My problems with it are more the portrayal of some of their personalities, particularly Leo and Don.

It's a bad habit I've gotten into when communicating online, particularly on forums. I try to use the emoticons to convey I don't mean insult or to have things taken too dead seriously.

And sarcasm and light heartedness rarely translates online, so....

I didn't know it was converting to IMAX. I figured Guardians would have 'em locked out because of Disney's partnership with IMAX.

That's good news for TMNT; IMAX offers a nice boost on box office numbers! Godzilla got like 2 million from IMAX alone, I think!

I continued to say that, along with claiming there will only be 'Raph smash' material in the movie, claiming there will only be martial arts in this movie is a reach too. There's elements of 'Raph smash' in trailers (Raph's backhand, and some qualify the hummer scene as 'Raph smash'). There's also elements of martial arts in the trailers (Don fighting the Foot, Splinter wielding a sword, the fact they have martial arts weapons, and some qualify the backflip as 'martial arts').

The truth is, as I said, we can't really say one or the other. We haven't hardly seen ANYTHING fight wise, yet, actually. Some may view parts as 'Raph smash', some may view parts as 'martial arts', but we have hardly seen much of either. The fighting has hardly been showcased to us.

Is that bad marketing? Well, I may be wrong, but if we are going to get a taste of what this movie has for us (in more detail) eventually, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Also, I wasn't saying that we should give anyone the benefit of the doubt about anything. I'm just saying, judging from what we have seen, I'm not sure we can assume one way or the other quite yet. Not that we should automatically assume this film is filled with martial arts.

... even if Schneider's Batman were gay, why would that even be a problem? There's nothing wrong with being gay. Or bi. Or purple. We're all people. Let's move on.

The complaining about complainers complaining complainingly is really boring, and I'm aware I just participated in it, but when I log in and this is the first thing I see... nygh. I want to be friendly with everybody on this forum, regardless of what parts of the franchise they like. Can we please all just get some perspective on this?

Seriously, do you not realise how many people are avoiding the boards because of this sh*te at the moment? GAH. We're all Turtles fans, some of us like/dislike different things, for the love of god stop turning it into World War 3.

I think the problem is that Batman, as a character, is not gay. Just like Batman doesn't have those interesting accessories to his suit ... but, as you said, let's move on.

Agreed. And, yeah, I'm guilty of it too.

I think maybe we should all consider taking a break from this movie discussion section of the forum, stop all this bickering and arguing about things we've already bickered and argued about before, until some new still with the turtles is released, or the new trailer, or something really new and BIG worth discussing. This constant nagging and debating from both sides about the same things over and over again can get really old, and I think it sort of drains some people.
