That's an interesting way of describing him.
Quote:
April is literally the only female anything he has ever encountered in his life. And since he has been living his entire life with four other male persons, he has no real idea how to act around a girl or deal . So yeah he comes across as creepy, but that's really not intentional. And he also learns what sort of behaviors April appreciates and doesn't and adapts so he isn't doing something that weirds her out. So antics we've seen early on in the series aren't repeated later.
That's also true. He has calmed down a lot compared to season 1. I did find the "stalking" thing creepy in Mutagen Man Unleashed, but after rewatching it, it hit me that Leo, Raph, and Mikey weren't reacting to Donnie's knowing she was in the park...they reacted after he said that she was on a date which was something he couldn't and shouldn't have knowledge of. You know, even then it was an accident that he even found out. He didn't approach them or anything.
Quote:
Also as much as Donnie does love April, and would love it if she chooses him to be her consort. He doesn't want to push things farther then she's comfortable with, so he doesn't claim her as his girl friend because she hasn't acknowledged that is something she wants. And some episodes such as Mutagen Man unleashed and Target: April O'Neil have suggested that he knows that because of what he is April would more then likely never choose to be with him. That isn't going to stop himself from fighting for her affections, but if push comes to shove. He'd rather remain apart of her life, then lose her forever.
I felt that this is what Donnie's fear reflected in Fungus Humongus. The friendship thing seemed to be the primary fear and the Casey thing being secondary. I feel Donnie values his friendship too much to jeopardize that.
Quote:
Casey on the other hand it more pushy on the subject. He likes April, but his attitude is more "People are going to see us together and believe were a couple. Lets prove 'em right." I think Casey may have legitimately needed to use a tutor so he can remain on the schools hocky-team. But I think he also wanted her as a tutor because he may have seen her at school and liked her, but guys like him normally don't approach girls like her without giving the wrong impression. So when he saw she was offering to tutor he was like "Yes, this is the perfect chance to get to spend time with April O'Neil."
I dunno. I get the impression that he would do that with any girl, since he's the "cool guy" type and that he did need actual tutoring. Maybe he thought April was cute, but didn't get into her fully until that fight with Mutagen Man. She can fight and she's cute. But who knows, my interpretation could be off and wrong.
Quote:
April in turn has grown to love Donnie and Casey as friends, and brother figures. And in a way she has grown to love them as more then that. She can't choose between them, because both of them complete her. That and the fact she really isn't all that interested in having a boy friend. Most of the time, she has other things on her mind such as school, her father when he was captured and later when he was mutated. Helping her friends defeat the Foot, and discovering more about why the Kraang want her. That's why she brings Irma along with them on outings, so Casey can't assume she's interesting in him as more then a friend. With Donnie there is no real point in getting a third wheel involved because he already has three of them.
Not really, imo. The two can hang out alone without the other three around, I feel. I'm just under the impression if Donnie asked her to hang someplace, like the park or wherever, or vice-versa, they wouldn't feel the need to invite someone else around, like it seems to be when it comes to Casey because Donnie isn't pushy and kind of internalizes that stuff...minus when he accidentally says something embarrassing. "My princess".
Quote:
During the time she hated the turtles for her father's mutation. As much as she was telling herself it was for the best that she not associate with them any more. There were moments where she sounded like she had to convince herself that was the best decision. However in Target: April O'Neil after Casey repeats the same statement Donnie had told her. She realizes he's is needlessly pushing someone she cared about, simply for caring about her and wanting to make sure she was alright.
Thinking about it, I wonder if Donnie was trying to get the nerve to approach her that ep to try and fix the friendship. The target one. That was my impression. I wonder the same for the Mutagen Man ep. He was going on about how she was in the park at that time usually.

The main issue is April was never with any of the turtles in any of the other versions. So we're not used to seeing it now. If April was Mike's girlfriend in the 80s version it wouldn't have been such a big deal if they did it again in this version.

Goliath and Elisa are not a good example. They don't have 3 or so versions of the show to compare from.

The thing is though this April is completely different from all other incarnations of the character.

Most people are complaining about this just because it's April, but because she's not human in this version, it comes off like people are complaining and worried that the humanoid mutant might have feelings for the other humanoid mutant.

It sounds pretty stupid when it's put that way doesn't it? But because one of those humanoid mutants is named "April O'Neil", it's suddenly a problem.

I'M SORRY BUT THAT AIN'T NOTHING LIKE SPOCK AT ALL. Like does anybody writing the show [or you for that matter] know what Spock is even like? He's almost robotic with his emotions. Donnie yells and screams.

If he was learning, he would stop doing those things entirely. But because he "likes her" and he thinks his emotions should come first, he continues because he thinks it's the only way he will "get" her. It's creepy.

Really, where was this stated? Did you make it up?

Right. People like this relationship because it's different, but people hate it for that same reason.

Ok, so if another set of storyboards already turned out to be real...who the heck is leaking these. o.O I question if that sort of stuff is even supposed to get out, let alone that far in advance. lol

As to this set, if it's likewise legit, placing my vote on dream sequence. The whole Donnie/April thing is cute and though I do kinda root for him in all that, if it really did happen that imo may be a bit awkward to watch to be honest... [insert "not sure what to make of this" smiley]

I get what people are saying, that it's "creepy" because he's a mutant animal and she's a mutant human. But at the same time it's not like this hasn't ever occurred in other media?

Beauty and the beast. Girl falls in love with an animal.
Avatar. Guy falls in love with an alien.
Young justice. Super boy falls in love with a terrifying Martian.

it's not what Donnie looks like it's his behavior, actually it's both Donnie and April's behavior

now with Donnie...there was no build up.

he sees April and automatically likes her and decides she's the one from that point on. Even though they have nothing in common and April kinda has no personality. I know. I know....teens like pretty girl, but it would have been nice to see reasons why he really likes her?

also his creepy moments

He stares at her using Metalhead
He calls her “my April/”princess”
He knows exactly when she’s at the park
He takes pictures of her
He seems to trust her more than his brothers/heck he seems to care about her more than his brothers
oh and "nice jumpsuit"

it's hard NOT to be a little creeped out.

as for April.....

She gives him the most ambiguous responses to his not so subtle hints.
At least with Casey she's either telling him straight out that they aren't dating or is smiling at his flirting.

She seems to like Donnie because he does stuff for her or promises her stuff.
Not for who he is.

Donnie always saves April
Donnie always promises April he'll help her
Donnie made the retromutegen for her
Donnie gets her dad out of kraang jail

Donnie: I got your back!
April: you always do.

now....what has April done for Donnie personally?
not much......in fact there has been moments where she's unappreciative.

-Donnie saves her- she doesn't want saving! (literally 5 minutes later..."help me Donnie!!")-Kraang conspiracy
-Donnie couldn't catch her and she falls into the mutagen--"nice catch Donnie!"
-Donnie tries to break her out of kraang jail or the princess bubble--she tells him to hurry it up.

It's like she knows she can get what she wants from Donnie and likes that so she leads him on.

I know that sounds harsh.....but that's the vibes I get.....if it was presented better I'd probably be all aboard the Don and April train.....or at least okay with it. But as of right now....it feels like poison to watch.

Majority of the time these are behaviors he does once, and we never see it again.

There is such thing as love at first sight. And also as I mention in another thread, there is a myth in Eastern Asian Culture known as the red string of fate. According to the myth the gods tie an invisible red string to the finger of two people who are destined to encounter each other. This string can be tangled, stretched, or knotted, but it will not break. And it guides these two together regardless of time, place, and circumstance.

Fortunately Donnie has not said anything about April being his destiny. He may have been destined to meet her, possibly since their lives are linked by the Kraang. But the jury is still out on whether or not it his destiny to marry her.

And such relationships are used in other media as well.
For example in Yu Yu Hakusho there is a rather character named Kazuma Kuwabara. At one point in the series he sees a young ice maiden named Yukina and falls instantly in love with her despite the face that they haven't officially met and he feels it is his destiny to marry Yukina.

Yukina for her part likes him as a friend, but she finds his affections difficult to understand.

But also in the Yu Yu Hakusho fandom, people place Kurama and Botan together despite they really have nothing in commons and don't interact all that much in the manga or anime. But people have likened them to Romeo and Juliet in some ways because one Kurama's from the demon world and he's a notorious criminal. While Botan is from the Spirit World and is a messenger of the dead.

He cares about his family a good deal, and he trusts Leo most of all. But sometimes that trust wavers, such as Mikey and Raph being loose cannons. And Leo has been known to lapse in judgement as well. Particularly with this recent episode.

There have only been three situations where Donnie has thought of April more then his brothers.

First time- Karai's vendetta. Donnie wants to go save April because she was being chased by Karai, and he knew she wasn't ready to take on someone of Karai's level. His brother's have to pull him back to reality in order for the task to be completed

Second time-Target: April O'Neil Donnie leaves his brothers to go save April. In all honesty, April would not have called them if she wasn't legitimately in over her head. So he had good reason to go to her aid vrs. destroying the new Kraang weapon.

Though it would have been better to have Leo allowing him to go after her instead of Donnie just up and ditching them.

Third time: Kraang Conspiracy-that was largely April's fault. They told her that she wasn't ready to join them on missions, and for her safety she should stay outside. She was the one who insisted on coming with despite the fact she wasn't ready to face danger at that magnitude.

Casey on the other hand has been wanting April to go on a date with him since the day he met her.
For example:
After Casey walks April home after their first tutoring session, he says "When's our next date?" and April stops him from accidentally coming across the Turtles while they are fighting in the alley next to her apartment. He says "I knew it...something you want to say to me 'Red'?"

April pressuring Donnie to hurry up and get her out of that Kraang Facility, there were alarms going off so it would only be a matter of time before the Kraang came and got them.

Any one would be indignant like that if someone failed to save them from falling into a vat of radioactive goop that would have turned anyone else into a mutant. And that scene easily could have played out as Donnie saving April but falling into the Mutagen himself.

April asks Donnie to save her specifically in that scene. By all rights it should have been "Help! Help me guys!" But instead it's "Help! Somebody help! Donnie"

In Monkey Brains she is worried about Donnie when he gets injured and defends him when his brothers are teasing him about being beaten up by a monkey.

In TCRI when the guys return home she says "Your okay!" in relief and runs up and hugs Donnie specifically.
Spoiler:

In Enemy of my Enemy she in the point where Donnie is saying that it would be good to have a Kunoichi on their side and repeatedly made things increasingly worse in his attempts to clarify what he meant. April says "It's okay, I get it. She's your mortal enemy, but hey...She's perrty!" in a rather jealous sounding tone.

In Target: April O'Neil she approaches Donnie and says "Thank you for always being there, even when I didn't want you to."

In Kraang conspiracy there is a moment where Donnie pushes her out of the way of on coming danger, and she does the same thing for him seconds later.

Spoiler:

In Lonely Mutation of Baxter Stockman she attacks Stockman Fly with her Tessen yelling "Get off of him!" When Baxter had Donnie pinned down. And works with Casey and Leo to try an keep Stockman Fly from murdering Donatello in his attempt to get the Retro Mutagen.

As for her worrying about and caring about Casey instead of Donnie. Casey has been in potentially life threatening situations three times. He has been kidnapped by gigantic mutant rats, eaten alive by a gigantic Kraang worm, and thrown off the roof of a three story building. Anyone would worry about a friend who had undergone that. April hasn't witnessed any situations where Donnie could have been grievously injured, or supposedly dead as of yet. It is possible they are building to such a situation.

I see your points, but I'm sorry the cons for Apriltello out weigh the pros for me.

-I can't just forget those creepy moments even if he did each once, because he keeps doing more new ones.

-I can't get over April's lack of character and I'll never understand why Donnie would like her

- and I just can't see Donnie and April working.....they just don't have any chemistry....it will always seem forced to me because the writers just make it so, instead of explaining why.

-I just can't see it.....but I understand your point...I just don't think they are enough to make me change my mind from what I have seen of April and Donnie so far.

I think Nick April may be a "playa" , it would be a fun twist to not make her so pure. Here's my earlier theory about Nick April's lack of innocence :

Yet whenever it comes to reciprocating to Donnie's affection, she's either vapid like a block of wood, acts completely ignorant/clueless, or she coaxes Donnie to keep pursuing that Retro-Mutagen to save her father with just the right amount of minimal gratitude kisses on the cheek.

It's not like some teen girls are above that type of shady behavior in exploiting the brainy nerds by making them do favors for her, with the nerds thinking they actually have a chance with her (the hot/pretty girl). Play on Nick April, play on...

That's not what people complain about.

People complain because it's Donnie, and it's April, and he's a mutant, and she's "human", so no...it's creepy.

And then when people on here give plenty of examples of times stuff like this has occurred, the response is "This is Turtles, so it's different. They've never this before, so it's gross."

There's a big difference between what you're saying and the masses.

People are generally complaining that Donnie's character is nothing but crushing on April. With each passing day, I have become from annoyed to full on hating this stupid ship. I have nothing against a mutant/pairing, but I just hate how it being done. It is nothing but a pull for high ratings.

Donatello x April isn't creepy just because one is turtle and one is human, its creepy because Donatello acts like borderline stalker most of the time. That. Isn't. Charming. They don't have chemistry together and there is no reason for April to like him like that.

Don's main motivation for creating retromutagen seems to have been "Because it will make April like me again" which is horribly obnoxious and demonstrates that he thinks that April should like him for him doing things for her. Hell, if showrunners make that happen, it seems that message is "Hey kids, if you like someone, act like creepy stalker until they like you!"

Besides, if April becomes love interest to Don, it reinforces the thing that it seems like her whole purpose is to exist to be macguffin on krang plot(and occasionally a damsel in distress) and motivate turtles to do crap. Heck, why should April be love interest to anyone really? Because token girl character of main cast always has to be love interest?

Nothing like potentially needing a restraining order... at best impossible to get one against the talking turtle stalker no one else is allowed to see... at worst, thrown into a psych unit for making such claims.

April isn't leading anyone, "On."
Both Casey and Donnie suffer from the same delusion that lack of a NO means YES.

It does not.
Yes is not the default answer. Yes should be enthusiastically given, not assumed because someone gets a hug in gratitude or a peck on the cheek.

Casey thought the movie outing was a Date, and it's clear that April did not.
That's Nice Guy territory: Thinking that girls are gumball machines that you put niceness into and get romance out of.

It's creepy.
Not as creepy as Donnie's obsession with April, but hey...the season isn't over yet.

it's not as creepy because Casey isn't being sneaky about it.

if anything....
Donnie is moving toward creeper
Casey moving toward jerk

if April really isn't leading them both on....then she needs to say out loud "NO" to both of them because that's what you have to do when people can't take hints, you have to tell them straight out what's up.
