if April really isn't leading them both on....then she needs to say out loud "NO" to both of them because that's what you have to do when people can't take hints, you have to tell them straight out what's up.
In real life she wouldn't have to do that. It's not her responsibility. And in truth, in some instances being that direct might put her in physical danger.

As a character the fault lies at the feet of the writers who apparently not only condone Nice Guy Behaviors, but are romanticizing them.

I really wish they'd write Splinter sitting the boys down and giving them a talking to.

Splinter sat Donnie down and that didn't seem to help....*sigh*

Does anyone know where they are? It looks like a house, and April lives in an apartment. I wonder if we will soon be seeing Casey's farm soon? That'd be interesting to see in this series, and it could happen with the rumors of The Shredder forcing the turtles to fled from the city soon.

Seems pretty obvious, now that the Foot know where they live. Unless the show has more of its infamous pacing problems. I think maybe we'll get five MOTW episodes, then one where Shredder tells Karai, "Alright; you've been in the dungeon for four hours; now you can come out if you help us hunt the Turtles."

Look Donnie x April defenders, say what you say. It's not that I find it creepy cuz of Donnie not being human or whatever. I just don't like how the characters act in this pairing or love triangle. Like some one said, if it was done right I'd be fine. Heck, I used to ship Leo with Karai in this series before finding out her secret, I don't ship brother / sister pairings

I'd rather them have Donnie grow as a character and let go of his crush. It will be like Mako x Korra from Legend of Korra, what a mess that was

Well, now that we know the other storyboards were real, I have a feeling these are real as well. It could be Casey's grandmother's farmhouse, or it could belong to April's grandmother. I think Kirby is the one who will lend them the farmhouse to stay in once they have to flee the city this season.

As for the Don/April pairing, I think it's pretty clear April doesn't like Casey as a boyfriend because she's pretty much denied that they're dating and always brings Irma along. If she really wanted alone time with him, she wouldn't do that. I don't think she's totally chosen Donnie yet, but I really hope she does. I think the crush brings another facet to Don's character and him finding the retro-mutagen wasn't all about wanting April back in his life. It was more about fixing the mistake they made, which he did. Yes, he was sad that April had left them, but his motivations weren't all about April coming back to them entirely.

Beauty and the beast. Girl falls in love with an animal.
Avatar. Guy falls in love with an alien.
Young justice. Super boy falls in love with a terrifying Martian.

THAT'S NOT WHAT MAKES IT CREEPY. I am so glad people shot your ass down.

This has nothing to do with Donatello.

This is a cartoon. Fate doesn't exist within it. It's all up to the writers.

For example in Yu Yu Hakusho there is a rather character named Kazuma Kuwabara. At one point in the series he sees a young ice maiden named Yukina and falls instantly in love with her despite the face that they haven't officially met and he feels it is his destiny to marry Yukina.

Yukina for her part likes him as a friend, but she finds his affections difficult to understand.
Kuwabara doesn't disrespect Yukina. He doesn't blatantly disobey her. If she wanted him to go away, he would have. All of these things make him much different from Donatello. Kuwabara has a personal honour code that he adheres to VERY strictly, and if Yukina had ever turned him down he would have been upset about it but he would have gotten over it. I can't see Donnie reacting this way. I only see anger.

While Botan is from the Spirit World and is a messenger of the dead.
Fanon is not canon. Those two do not feel anything for one another aside from platonic affection [Botan has said as much out loud during the Dark Tournament when he was fighting Karasu]. They rarely interact with each other on a significant level. People only ship them because they want the pretty boy to be in a straight relationship, when his gay ones actually have a lot more evidence and chemistry. Not that it matters, because he doesn't show any romantic interest toward anybody either way.

Also, Kurama's not a criminal any more. The reason why he [and Hiei for that matter] joined Team Urameshi was to clean his own slate, remember?

You just had to bring YYH up when someone in the thread was currently in the middle of rewatching the series. And for the record, I do ship Kuwabara/Yukina. It has problematic aspects to it, but Kuwabara doesn't reek of Entitled Nice Guy like Donnie does.

I bet you if Donnie was a human, he absolutely would be expecting her to be interested in going on a date. And he goes out of his way to do nice things for her because he wants her to date him. That's the definition of Nice Guy. People that think they can just get their "rightful" "reward" of a woman's love just because they do nice things to her. And that's what Donnie is.

You can point to "Apritello evidence" all you like but it doesn't stop the ship from being a trainwreck of awful.

Respect isn't automatic, it's earned. Besides, it's a single comment. Does not constitute harassment, which I do not condone.

Also, offtopic.

Sorry, but although I agree respect shouldn't be automatic, nobody is helping their case by resorting to name-calling. You're reported.

This. Actually I'm hoping that once Irma meets the Turtles, Donnie will mature a little bit in the area of teh wimmenz - I sort of think that he'd have a lot in common with Irma and I'm hoping that having a female character to interact with a bit more intellectually would be good for him, help him grow up and develop a healthier approach to his communications with girls.

Also, it's completely obvious to me that April and Karai are hate-crushing on one another and are totally going to end up together.

Well, this thread has been...interesting....to read lately. Here's my two cents.

Donnie crushing on April is innocent, and if you think its disgusting/creepy or whatever, you're looking way too far into it. We're talking about a mutant turtle and a girl with alien psychic powers, for crying out loud. The way some of you people talk about the crush make it seem like Don is sexually harassing April or something. And then you say that kids watching the show will find this behaviour acceptable? What? Kids aren't that stupid, they know the difference between fiction and reality and what is acceptable/unacceptable in each of them. Seriously, get over it.

If you think people know that kind of behaviour is unacceptable, then why do people, even grown adults, do it? In fact, why are you still defending it? It's reprehensible. Vile. Do not defend it.

No he doesn't. He does not act like a borderline stalker. I still feel that, other than plot convenience, in Target: April O'Neil, Donnie was trying to find a way to approach her and trying to get the nerve to apologize. She didn't give either of them a chance to earlier.

Don's main motivation for creating retromutagen seems to have been "Because it will make April like me again" which is horribly obnoxious and demonstrates that he thinks that April should like him for him doing things for her. Hell, if showrunners make that happen, it seems that message is "Hey kids, if you like someone, act like creepy stalker until they like you!"
Wrong. He was super determined because of Timothy's monstrous mutation. Kirby was just the icing on the cake, and besides, he even said to Timothy that he hopes to find a cure for him and also that if he didn't find one for Kirby that April wouldn't want to be "our" friend again. He was talking about all of them and has on more than one occasion. As I mentioned earlier, he does seem to romantically like her, but values her friendship more.
Quote:
Besides, if April becomes love interest to Don, it reinforces the thing that it seems like her whole purpose is to exist to be macguffin on krang plot(and occasionally a damsel in distress) and motivate turtles to do crap. Heck, why should April be love interest to anyone really? Because token girl character of main cast always has to be love interest?
No real argument here...about how April is only being portrayed as the love interest, but I disagree about Donnie. I feel that Donnie has been characterized decently. He's smart, compassionate, sarcastic, and emotional. Episodes that focus on him tend to be interesting, like when Timothy was first mutated or even in his debut ep. I've grown to like the character I guess and imo, Donnie's "creepy moments" are very rare, imo. Like the Metalhead thing, even though I personally didn't find it so creepy because I feel Donnie would've done that if he would've been there. Sneaking glances.

The thing about knowing April would be studying in the park wasn't creepy at all because the others didn't react until he said "on a date". He then said he'd followed her, but even then, he found out by accident. Besides, Donnie has a photo of them on the wall of his lab of them in the park.

I'm just pointing to a few events, one can make their own conclusions.

I don't know... it's weird where this crush thing has been going on for so long and to almost stalkerish depths. (I know it's just a cartoon, but it's showing its age though for almost a full two seasons now.) I've narrowed it down to Donnie and Casey (to a lesser degree) are either delusional with Nick April, when she hasn't reciprocated anything. OR if Casey and Donnie are actually sane, which I think we'd all like to assume , something (that we are clearly not seeing in the cartoon, and making me look too sensitively into any subtext) must be giving them hope to think that they actually have a chance with April. Thus my outlandish and ridiculous Nick April "playa" theory of her leading them both on, or at least Donnie for sure.

It would be one thing if the running gag was innocent flirting, but the fact that Nick April looks uninterested while Casey and Donnie fight for her like a trophy, is making me wonder if there's some hidden subtext here (if it's even occurring). Such as the worm incident when it rubbed against April's backside and thought it was Casey rather than creepy Donnie.

Whatever... it's all trying to put real world logic onto a cartoon, animated world.

...Though I'm sure the tide about Donnie's crush would change drastically, if Donnie wasn't cute looking and looked like Slash. Or in other words, if it's a cute/handsome guy, it's destiny pointing to your true love, but if it's an ugly guy, he is then a creepy delusional stalker.

Well I could see why she thought it was Casey. He has no problem with invading one's personal space. He's draped his arm around her, rubbed the smudge on her face, etc. Donnie wouldn't do that. Even in the first ep where he saved her, he didn't force her to join him and the others. He left it up to her. He put out his hand, he didn't force it. Casey's the opposite. Going back to Wormquake, Casey didn't ask if April wanted to go through the portal...he forced her and just pulled her along. Donnie would've asked first.

Timmy is rather forgotten though. I mean, in the episode where he finally makes retromutagen, he only wants to cure April's dad and Splinter without any mention of Timothy.

I'll be horrible annoyed if April ends up with anyone at this point. Don acts like entitled nice guy creeper(even if writers realized it isn't cute and funny and started to cut it down, it doesn't really excuse the fact it happened and April should be aware of it considering how bad Don was hiding it so if she is interested in him even though he used to act REALLY creepy...) and Casey acts like jerk. Though in latter case, there at least seems to be flirting between Casey and April occasionally, its still stupid since Casey tends to act jerkish and pushy. It'd be good if this is building up to moment when she finally has enough of it and calls them out on it, but if the storyboard leak is real... Yeaaaah, I'm disappointed in writers if that happen. Unless before that happens they actually manage to build it up well. If Don keeps acting like this and April not showing interest only to suddenly have an episode where she express interests in him.... Well, it really does show that writers don't know how to write female characters.

There is a difference between Stalking and Shadowing.

Shadowing is secretly or discreetly following someone an individual as a means of keeping them under surveillance.

Stalking is obsessively following an individual with the intent to cause physical and emotional harm. Often the the person being followed feels intimidated and harassed by the person following them.

People who base Donnie's behavior as stalkerish is likey because: people characterized as stalkers may be accused of having a mistaken belief that another person loves them.

Yes, Donnie has obsessive behavior towards April. But he doesn't mean or intend any harm or intimidation by it. Take that scene where he sees April and Casey talking on the ice. He doesn't reveal himself to Casey and tell him to stay away from April. Instead he accepts the probability that he may have lost her and moves on.

He doesn't call her every hour to see what she is up to. During the times he's called her repeatedly was during the times where she was in danger. Take the moment when he calls her after they get home from destroying that underwater Kraang base. April cheerfully answers with "Hey Donnie!" as if she's glad to hear from him.

Odds are Donnie has been seeing the previous episodes between April and Casey, and his statements in this story boards was him saying 'I accept the fact you like Casey. I won't stand between you any more.' As he says 'Donnie is to April, what Bigfoot is to Donnie' Donnie is staying that because he's a mutant, he's nothing more then a beast. And April kissing him and saying she's 'her mutant.' Means that even though he's a mutant, he's a mutant that matters to her.

I don't feel that he's being obsessed with April, more like he's being very over protective. However, if you recall all the events that took place, you can understand why he is. Within 12 or so episodes:

: Donnie lost Kirby, April,
: almost lost Mikey in Squirrelanoids,
: almost lost Leo in Follow the Leader,
: lost Timothy,
: feared he would lose Mikey again in Shellance,
: April again in Target: April,
: saw Raph lose Spike,
: lose April again in Kraang Conspiracy,
: lost Metalhead,
: saw April lose Casey in Rats and Men,
: saw April lose Casey in Wormquake,
: lost April again in Lonely Mutation,
: ect. Am I making this clear.

A lot of traumatic events within a very brief amount of time. Alright, that probably freaking hard for anyone, let alone a teenage boy. You would be a little overprotective for anyone if you witnessed that many tragic scenes.
