It would be a little off if they got together I feel but in the end they are both mutants right? Maybe not so bad after all

Donnie has never done that.

If Donnie was obsessed with April, he would actually act like it. He doesn't and getting down to it, he never has. If he was obsessed with her, I'm sure he'd be more aggressive towards Casey and go out of his way to keep them apart by all means necessary. He doesn't. He would act as if she was his girlfriend. He doesn't. It's a crush, but I feel even Donnie knows his limits, which explains why he didn't approach April when she was with Casey.

He has called her "his April."
He didn't stay away when she specifically told him to.
He devised a specific flow chart to make her hang out with him.

You might find those things endearing, but I find them creepy.
That there hasn't been violence, or fear on the part of the victim, doesn't mean there hasn't been stalking.

Me for me personally? Those are red flags. People who do crap like this get avoided.

Can't argue against this. Don't know what I'd call it though.

He technically did stay away, but I also mentioned something earlier too that seemed to constantly get ignored. After the incident where her father was mutated, she didn't give either one of them the chance to defend themselves. Personally, I felt that Donnie wanted to fix the friendship or at least get his say in. He seems to value his friendship with her more than the whole "romance" thing. Fungus Humungous showed that.

Seriously, that was pure genius! It's no different from a guy or girl trying to think of ways to hang out with his/her crush. Donnie made the chart of possibilities. Nowhere was it said that he was going to "make her" hang with him. He just thought of scenarios where he could possibly hang with her. There's a difference...meh, I'll just quote myself...
Quote:
I thought it was pure genius and just re-emphasized how he's the type to overthink and plan. Wasn't that the actual premise of the episode? He couldn't fight properly because he would think too much.

How exactly is this creepy, anyway? How is it any different from a guy or girl who may purposely walk a certain path just to have an excuse to be near the object of his or her affections? Or a situation where you're thinking of ways to hang around that person? He just came up with different scenarios to hang around him, and personally, I'd find it hard to believe if no one's ever done that (not on Donny's level of course). I know I have.

I was interested in a guy, already friends, would try to think of a way to be alone with him without others around and without it seeming like I'm trying to get a date out of him. Just thinking of a way to casually hang out without other friends along, that type of thing. i find these actions, by Donny, quite normal. His over analyzing and planning, though is played up for laughs.

If he had a chart filled with her day-to-day activities ("See, and this is when April washes her hair, so I'll come by and offer her specialized shampoo that will enhance her hair's shine...") listed or her exact locations ("...and at exactly 3:27, she's usually standing at the corner of [street name] so I can go there and...."), etc., then I would find that creepy. He was just coming up with different scenarios to hang out with her when the opportunity presented itself and predicting what she might or might not say. The homework scenario was quite logical, imo. She's a student, of course she'll have homework (and she's mentioned it).

Sorry, I don't find anything Donnie is doing stalkerish or obsessive. Awkward, yeah...but that's about it. I've kind of been on the receiving end of the "stalker" thing...sorta, which is probably why I don't find Donnie's actions stalkerish.

Your mileage apparently varies, because I've been on the receiving end of stalker behaviors and that's exactly why I don't like the writers turning Donatello into a "Nice Guy."

Casey neither.

When Kirby was mutated because of the turtle's negligence April didn't have to give the turtles a chance to defend themselves. They hurt her. They hurt her family. No amount of apology would fix that.

Interesting how two people who have had a similar experience can view something so differently, eh?

I know, but it's human nature to want to fix it and I've been in that situation before too. Well, not like that of course....I wasn't responsible for any unwanted mutations.

I did have a riff with my best friend though a few years back. I felt awful about it. We stopped talking and everything for a long time (months). Despite the hurt I felt (and I'm assuming the same for him), I never did approach him no matter how much I truly wanted to just to talk and try to get things back to normal or at least as close to normal as it could possibly be. Anyway, I finally got the nerve to go to his place and talk to him. He was shocked to see me. We both gradually started talking again.

I kept trying to get the nerve...sometimes driving by when on my way from work. I'd have the nerve before going, but would then chicken out and just head home (or to work) or wherever it was I was headed to. I then finally got the nerve that one time. Actually, I sensed something was off or wrong, which was making me worry about him. The feeling was so strong, I just couldn't ignore it anymore. Ironically, I was right as he was going through some things...but yeah.

That's how I viewed Donnie's situation. He was really really sorry for what happened and wanted her to know that, even if she wouldn't accept it.

If it's kinda square one in a character development arc, then fair enough, and I would like to see where that goes. But if Donnie is in any way "rewarded" for coming on like he has... yeah, that's not gonna sit well.

I want to see him realize the error of his ways and get over his crush, emotionally mature a little, and in the process actually get to know April better and have the two become better friends. That'd be a great message for the kids watching.

Precisely. Pre-****in-cisely.

Wow, if you LIKE that kind of behaviour, I want you FAR away from me. That chart was a way to dodge consent, and shows that in Donnie's mind, WHAT APRIL WANTS MEANS NOTHING.

I might start watching the show if they actually made a turnaround like that. But I have no faith in this show's terrible writing staff. I don't expect that to happen.

I'll put it this way, April was well aware that Donnie was following her, and she didn't confront him about that. What did she do? She thanked him for what you call "Stalking".

Plus, I'm not defending his actions, I'm explaining why he would do them.

Besides, I've already given my take of what's going to happen when I made this thread 7 months ago that is slowly becoming apparent by many others:

It's still stalking and it's still not okay. In NO way is stalking EVER okay.

Also, that thread of yours is good fanfic. I'd read it.

I think I missed that thread, but it's a nice catch and would make for a good, and emotional, parallel. An episode where April and Casey get more serious and Donatello starts slipping down a darker path (perhaps fighting Casey out of jealousy), only to pull himself back with Splinter's guidance? That's a winner.

Nah. Let's make Donatello completely irredeemably evil. I like that fanfic idea better.

I guess this conversation about Donatello's stalker behavior being wrong doesn't really amount to much if the storyboard is real. I mean, unless number of people who think his behavior was creepy outweight amount of shippers and they are loud to writers about it...*sigh* Why are kids' show writers so bad with romance and female characters anyway? Come on, writing characters who are female can't be that hard...

I don't know, it seems every comedian has a bit about how men know nothing about women.

So it must be harder than we expect.

That's the problem -- they write female characters, not characters that are female. Love interests instead of relatable beings.

But I'm not surprised, because according to their podcast, Karai and April are "enough" female characters. After all, we don't want relatable girls, because then the GIRLS would start watching our show that's supposed to be for BOYS! Just like with Young Justice! If too many girls start watching the show we'll have to cancel it because girls won't buy our toys.

I'm an expert marketer, don't question me.

I will never stop being angry about that Young Justice situation.

Attracting as wide an audience as possible should be what they strive towards, not a "problem". Plenty of girls will buy toys if you give them enough reason to care about the characters and the property. And y'know what? Plenty of boys will buy action figures of female characters too. I know I did when I was a kid. I'd gladly buy a Karai action figure if they'd ever get around to making one, and an April if I could find one in store even once.

This is outdated, stereotype-based thinking and we are in the 21st century. It's unacceptable.

...*breathes*.
