True, but it has to do with its era. Look up what other 80's action/superhero cartoons were back then, most of them were terrible. TMNT really was the best 80's comic book cartoon at the time, probably because it was self-aware of its own ridiculousness and didn't take itself too seriously.

Obviously after the 90's and shows like Batman: TAS came out the bar was raised for animation, but back then there was nothing like it.

Dragon Ball Z and Gurren Lagann both had pretty cool animation though? DBZ had plenty of problems but the animation wasn't really one of them.

DBZ has decent animation, but it's no Gurren Lagann in that aspect.

It sucked because they demanded episodes faster than there was source material. The animation / when stuff actually happened was decent enough shonen fighting anime fluff.

"Regular" Dragon Ball is better, but Z's alright for that genre.

Yes that is true, the worst episode is one that is basically just 20 minutes of Cell and Gohan firing one Kamehameha at each other. And the source material is better as it has a better flow, that is also true.

Nope, I can't knock on his honesty, but, I could get on his case that if he really didn't want to put the time and effort to try to understand what it is about this franchise that the fans have liked enough to keep it above water for 30 plus years, then he should have just admit the project is not for him and bow out. Or, he should have hired an assistant to do the leg work for him. I'm pretty sure he could have found one in a college nearby who would have worked on the project for him for free.

4kids movie would be great, but they should just go the whole hog and do a Mirage film. Or even better that idea of HBO adapting the comics for television. It will never happen and we know the reasons why it will never happen, but it would be excellent.

I don't see what the turtles can't be split into adult and kiddie universes, as someone else mentioned before.

I think the perfect TMNT would strike a balance between what would please the fans and what is commercial.

For example... as a hard-core fan I LOVED Turtles Forever. I grinned the whole way through it. Turtles Forever was clearly made for the fans but it would be completely meaningless to anyone else. My sister, who is a moderate fan, watched it and said it was "stupid".

It sounds like this new PD film (which I've not seen yet) seems to be too steered towards the general populous and as such has upset a lot of fans.

If we want TMNT films in this day and age they need financial backing from a strong studio. With CGI at such a high standard industry-wide, I don't think mainstream audiences would really accept animatronics or animation any more. And good CGI costs a lot of pennies.

What I don't think would work is a feature-length 2k3 episode. That show ran its course, exhausted options and declined in quality as a result (FF, BTTS etc).

However... If they could take the flavour of 2k3 (and Mirage) and apply it to a commercial formula that would make huge investment and backing by a strong studio viable, then I think it would work really well and give us something fresh.

I voted maybe so. I'd love it of course, being that the 2k3 series is my favorite incarnation of turtles, but I think a Mirage one would be super cool too.

I'd love it, as long as they don't change it that it focuses on Raph like the films normally do.

Leo finally deserves a film which he is the star of, this would be it. I really liked the series too, not cuz Leo's my favorite but the way they did the story arcs was great. While I'm ok with the Nick version they tend to try and spread out those awesome important arcs as much as possible, adding filler episodes in between them which tends to cause them to forget the important aspects of those arcs.

At least with the 2003 series they knew how to keep things straight like that, my opinion though.

Also to those who said D.B.Z sucked, be glad no obsessed fan is around here, they are tough to deal with on other peoples different opinions. I do agree though, Animation was awful at times for example a lot of the Gohan V.S Cell episodes were just, which is a shame cuz that's my all time favorite arc and what got me into Anime in the first place.

Looking back though, watching Dragon Ball after all that in my opinion towards the end in the Piccolo Jr arc had of the best fights. It also showed Goku really grew as a person, matured and learned new fighting skills and major improvements on his original moves. Too bad towards the end of D.B.Z kind of through all of Goku's character development out the window and kind of regressed a little, what a horrible father and husband / friend he turned out to be, sucks he was a much better being in the Dragon Ball series and till the end of the Buu saga. Who the heck leaves his family like that to train with some random kid who just barley started to know for years and just expects every thing to be peachy when he returns home?

Piccolo was a better father to Gohan than freakin Goku was, poor Goten ( Who was my least favorite of the new cast ) Grew up without pretty much one. He had to deal with his much more abusive mother instead. His only much needed parent like figure was Gohan sadly
