The reason anyone picks up on these things is because we know these traits from other versions. It's not that it's subtle but rather they are creators don't give the characters time (and likely don't have the inclination) to develop the characters. Raph was never shown to have said or did or said anything that would require such a "heartfelt" apology thus it comes off as hollow particularly if you happen to be a viewer unfamiliar with TMNT and the character's dynamics.

While it's been done to death it might have been better had Raph gone off alone. At least it would have been more satisfying explanation to why he evaded capture than the Foot's stupidity and set up his apology better.

I think you're reaching with this one.

The fire was caused by April's father to stop Sach's nefarious schemes, yes? They simply blame the Foot. It isn't quite the same as causing a problem just so you can be the one people see swoop in and fix it.

It doesn't explain why Shredder seems to think the Foot are slipping into myth despite the fact that are well known terrorist group that everyone knows and is scared of. It doesn't fix the holes in Sach's plan that any idiot would not only see that Sach's tower is a source of a toxin but the convenience of Sach's company having a cure for a brand new plague.

Picking up where they left off isn't really a problem for me. Like you said they plainly state they can but while it's not a big deal I call foul they weren't able to pick up their plans quicker. What were they doing for 15 years? Did April's father wipe computer memories and destroy all hard copies of TCRI's research? Even if Mr O'Neil was the lead scientist, the only one with the full knowledge of how to make it where all the other scientists so ignorant that no one had an inkling how to make mutagen?
How is it reaching? He basically TOLD the entire CITY what he was planning in his speech! Seriously, watch that scene again, and tell me that didn't describe EXACTLY what he did later. And he blamed the fire on the Foot to have a scapegoat to hide what they were working on. It was also a convenient way to make himself out to be the hero later when an attack actually happened. It was pretty clear. He could just stand back and say "See? I told you I'd keep the city safe from these guys!" That was the whole point all along.

He also mentioned in his talk with Shredder that they had tried to duplicate the mutagen for FIFTEEN YEARS. And then April just handed him the turtles on a platter when she showed him the photos. And her dad DID destroy everything- he smashed the container with the mutagen, and took a blowtorch to the lab. Pretty sure all their data went up in flames. Computers tend to melt in intense heat..... And apparently, he wasn't the only one killed, either. Sachs even mentions that SEVERAL (not just her father) scientists died in the fire. Probably everyone working on the project. All they really had left was the toxin- and apparently a bunch of really big cages. And Donnie commented that the system they had their "dirty bomb" on used a code that was fifteen years old- and no one used anymore. It's pretty much a no-brainer that whatever they had left would require the mutagen to put their plan back on-line. And then wouldn't ya know it- guess what turns up- in their blood....

It's not reaching at all- it's called story seeding. Not to mention there's this thing called plot-advancement. It all tied in with their plan step-by-step. What gets me is why he would make that speech and expect people not to connect that to his building spewing out toxic gas later. Kinda a confession in advance, that.

With Raph, I feel like it's all the moments together that make that speech make sense. He clearly wanted to do his own thing- he stated that very clearly. He also seemed to resent Leo telling him what to do, especially in the rooftop scene. They were almost about to go to blows, from the way they were standing in each other's faces, so it's not hard to see that there was a LOT of friction. We don't really have to know the cause to understand that Raph and Leo didn't see eye-to-eye. Mikey's comment really highlights that, by inferring that they've done this MANY times before. If anything, they've argued so many times it's not even worth making a deal out of anymore, according to Mikey. You don't even have to be a fan familiar with the characters to figure that out. They more or less spelled it out point blank.

And it's NOT "blink and you miss it", but some of the cues are visual, like Raph and Leo standing nose to nose, or when Donnie and Mikey are blatantly ignoring the latest argument. Raph threatening to go off, or growling at Leo during the fight scene in the lair are also clear visual clues that don't require one to be a serious fan to notice. But given that some of it was in the background, I'll give you a point that it might take a second viewing to catch ALL of it unless you're paying close attention the first time out.

I think a lot of the complaints about their personalities not showing comes from the fact that many of these moments come in the middle of already intense or otherwise "busy" scenes where your attention is not immediately drawn to the personalities, but to the action or drama, comedy, etc. They don't stand out as obviously as it would during down-time moments, but this movie didn't have much room for those, so they had to show it in other ways- like Mikey getting distracted by the cat video while the others are discussing the Foot taking hostages. That is a PERFECT Mikey moment. Reminded me of the 2K3 version. Or Donnie nerding out several times on the rooftop. These things are small, but they show their personalities without having to go into a lot of heavy detail during long expository scenes or moments of "family drama". (Which they didn't really have much opportunity for anyway, with the script.) By the time April gets to the lair, we already have a good idea of all of their personalities. What more is needed to make them distinct and identifiable? Unless we wanted to make it another half-hour long, we don't NEED much more than that.

If that's the only enjoyment you get out of life, then you really need to sort out your priorities.

Yeah dude lots of 'em, at least more recently. I see 'em at some of the larger chains like Shop-Rite and Stop-N-Shop. Although I literally never see anyone buy them there, or even DVDs for that matter. But it's nice that they have them. Just in case I ever want to pick up a copy of "Heartbreakers" while I'm picking up some fabric softener.

I seen stores like Win Dixie carry DVDs and Blu-Rays, But not new releases, I never see a Kiosk with a new release on them.

It really isn't exactly what he was planning to do. It's similar but I think you're making a connection that isn't there.

In fact I think this can almost be proven. We know that several parts of the movie were re-shot to accommodate new story ideas in fact even before they did the re-shoots after production wrapped they changed things. Now other than scenes involving Tohoru Masamune who we know joined the cast during those re-shoots there's little to indicate which scenes were part of the original production and which were part of the re-shoots. But we do know one of the first scenes they did was this press conference and from descriptions it sounds very similar to what we got however another aspect we know was from later on was the mutagen being a cure for some cod disease as originally it was to make super soldiers. That doesn't really fit with what you see as forshadowing of Sach's plan does it?

Quote:
He also mentioned in his talk with Shredder that they had tried to duplicate the mutagen for FIFTEEN YEARS. And then April just handed him the turtles on a platter when she showed him the photos. And her dad DID destroy everything- he smashed the container with the mutagen, and took a blowtorch to the lab. Pretty sure all their data went up in flames. It's pretty much a no-brainer that whatever they had left would require the mutagen to put their plan back on-line. And then wouldn't ya know it- guess what turns up- in their blood....
But April's father didn't die in the fire. That's simply what April had always believed but in reality Sach's shot him.

Unless all the other scientists where complicit in the act of sabotage and Sachs shot them all too. Or did Mr O'Neil purposefully started the fire to kill his co-workers as well as destroy their work which certainly don't think is what the movie wants us to think. Hmmm you can tell they didn't really think this all through at all hence why people had a problem with Sach's third act revelation and it's all to shoe horn in April rescuing the turtles and releasing them down a drain.

I don't think you understand my point with this. Surely if Sach's people had been working for fifteen years on in trying to recreate the mutagen they'd have made some progress.

Even if Mr O'Neil was the only scientist to know the full formula or the full process to make mutagen and destroyed every documentation of it then are we suggesting that no one working for Sachs has at least knowledge of some of the process? It's not a big deal worth debating, the movie has a multitude of far, far bigger plot holes but since we're on this subject anyway I have to wonder what kind of idiots Sach's has working for him.

Well it's kind of hard to debate the turtles characterizations as while they are not overblown in the sense it's in your face they are overblown in the sense that they never do a say anything that isn't part of their one note personalities.

Raph is always the voice of dissension, Donatello tries to retinal scan April, someone he's just met not long ago or talks about pulse rates rather than simply say something like "she's coming to", Mikey never had a serious moment, Leo was....um Johnny Knoxville.

That's all well and good to let us know their characters in scenes where as you say are always busy but it makes them seem completely superficial when other versions, even other bad ones have made an effort to develop them beyond their base trait. That's why we needed the downtime scenes and I would argue at least two scenes are unnecessary and should have been replaced with turtles just being themselves; the stupid hashi scene and the turtles sneaking in.

These scenes made no sense. Was Splinter not aware of the turtles fighting the Foot? How could they sneak out so often without him knowing and my god choking his own son. Talk about a bad father and a teacher.

Also I'm not sure I agree about these perfect moments. Donatello's geek moments in particular had me rolling my eyes especially his high pitched squeel "oh my god they got guns". By far the worst iteration of my favorite turtle.

Me too, I'd like to see a better pic.

I was curious about those, but could never find anything else about it and the nearest FYE store is enough of a distance I never really found reason to get over that way otherwise.

1: Since we DON'T "know" which shots were part of the reshoot, it doesn't MATTER if the scenes I referred to where he pretty much spells out his plans were part of that or not. Also, it was in the SCRIPT that this was not only his plan, but his dialog, as well. All this was probably BEFORE the reshoots, except for the parts with Shredder, but those aren't even necessary for the story-seed to work. All you have to do is listen to his "inspiring speech" in front of the whole city (the one on the steps, or the one at the dinner, take your pick- he did it TWICE, even if not in the same words) to realize that he had already thought this out WAY before- like, I dunno, maybe fifteen years earlier? It's obvious to the viewers, even if not to the characters themselves (since they aren't privy to outside observation as we are). Furthermore, Sachs talking to April also reveals some of his intentions from the perspective of "hindsight" on April's part after she gets to the lair and Splinter tells her the "rest of the story". (Thank you Walter Cronkite.) She realizes- belatedly, of course- that he had used her to find them from the moment she told him. Because he is an evil, greedy b@stard.

2: Yeah, I KNOW he didn't die "in the fire" as she thought- he was SHOT- but STILL was KILLED during the fire- it's semantics, really. (Seriously??! THAT'S your argument??! ) The point remains that Sachs made it sound like the FOOT was responsible for the deaths and the destruction of the lab, when they weren't. (Unless you count HIS involvement, since he WAS Shredder's "student"- not that he ever did anything "ninja-y"....) He was using the Foot as a convenient party to blame the tragedy on. Which fits in with the rest of his plan. It makes perfect sense in light of everything else he said/did.

3: April's dad probably either had no idea anyone else was there, or they died trying to get out, possibly because they came back unexpectedly. Either that, or Sachs did indeed kill any witnesses to the shooting. It's also possible that they were trying to save the data, and got trapped inside. We just don't know, it's just a throwaway line anyway- the important part was that her FATHER died.

3: Making progress and being able to RECREATE something are two COMPLETELY different things, though. It's like when Captain America was "born", and the scientist who created the formula was killed- every attempt after that to recreated it FAILED. Because no one had the ORIGINAL formula anymore. They were basically throwing stuff against the wall and hoping it would stick to recreate the same effect- and without some crucial component, it was NEVER going to work! Same situation here. Without the ORIGINAL formula to work with, they would be flying blind, as it were. Chemistry is an exact science, where even the slightest deviation can completely change the end result, and cause the formula to fail in its intended effect. So fifteen years without any luck? Sounds about right. If he destroyed all the mutagen and even HALF the data, they'd probably never get back what was lost, and thus would have nothing to show for their efforts. That's pretty easy to understand.

4: The turtles characterizations were perhaps a bit simplified- I'll give you that one- but for the purposes of the movie AS IT WAS FILMED, we were never supposed to get a full, in-depth look at their personalities. All it was really necessary to know was who was who and what they were like in the broadest sense, because we've known going in that it was always supposed to get at least one sequel.

Also, pretty sure that hashi scene PROVED that there was tension between Leo and Raph, since Leo flat-out SAID that Raph was the one who always got them put there. Apparently, there's more to their bickering than just sibling rivalry- there's resentment from Leo that Raph keeps getting them punished! Great bit of characterization there, actually. Even more so since Raph immediately follows that with his declaration that Leo won't have to worry about it any more because he's leaving. And that brings them all up short. Obviously, this has been building for a while, but Raph has never mentioned this plan before, and they are upset by it.

As for Splinter- well, I wasn't a fan of what he did, but no, he obviously WASN'T aware of them going up- he was very plainly surprised when Mikey blurted it out when he finally "broke" after being punished for so long. (And with his biggest weakness, too- classic!!) And FYI, he wasn't CHOKING Raph- he simply picked him up off the floor using his tail. That's one DARN strong tail!!

And sorry you feel that way about Donnie- I thought his panic-attacks and geek-out moments were hilarious. But then again, I love Big Bang Theory, too- and mostly because of Sheldon.... (Those two would probably get along great. Except that Donnie's less of an @$$.)

Here's some more news about exclusive editions, first post has also been updated.

Found this picture on the Australian Facebook, looks like there is variant DVD cover over there, or maybe it's fake?

The FR4ME edition, previously only available in Taiwan is also coming to Italy next month.

According to Amazon Italy there's also a gift set coming with the Classics figures, I doubt the image is correct though, probably the same figures as were just released in the US.
