I wasn't making fun of anyone. I was 100% serious.

As iconic? Sure. More? Don't make me laugh. I'd possibly wager that if any of the three of them wasn't as iconic as the others, it'd be Snake.
Ah. Well that actually clears up a lot about this.

It's not about origin, but the fact that Rayman was far more marketed and performed better in Europe, specifically the UK, than it ever did worldwide. This colours your sentiments far more than anything else you've said and at least allows me to see it from your point of view and make sense of it. There's a large gulf of opinion between the UK and worldwide market as far as the NES-era of games are concerned. Historically, Mega Man has sold so poorly in Europe they may as well have never released the games there, so it's no wonder you feel the way you do. I can even agree that Snake isn't as iconic as his franchise is, but I also don't think he should have been in Brawl, nor should he return as DLC in 4. His ties to Nintendo history are tenuous at best. That said, they're both still far and away more important and iconic than Rayman worldwide.

Unfortunately there's far more to take into consideration in this argument than the popularity of characters in Europe alone. If that were the case there'd be room to argue for Dizzy being on the Smash roster. If you want to make an argument for Dizzy being iconic I'll back you on that one.

Well I can't contest marketing in different regions as I've lived here my entire life. I do know that from my experience Rayman is extremely well known here, he was a hot topic during my schooling years, and frankly I could take a picture of him into the street and most people would be able to name him, and probably Megaman, but I don't think Snake would be like the other two. In terms of sales and genuine renown, I really can't see how Rayman and Megaman are anything but equals (I guess the Japs probably aren't that aware of Rayman, I heard that they were pissed off with "cockroach guy" possibly being in Smash).

The only time I ever saw Megaman outside of MvC1 or MvC2 was in the arcade. Even though I didn't play a Rayman game until a few years ago, I was always aware of him.

I always found Snake's inclusion bizarre, but I kinda liked it. MGS on the PS was pretty damn good, and the Twin Snakes remake was even better. I dislike it when any character is cut, specifically unique movesets because even if I don't play as that character, I get a kick out of facing them. The only character in Smash history that I've genuinely considered a complete waste of time is Palutena (and Miis).

Dizzy would need to have a new game first. 21 years since his last one.

If they were doing third party characters back with the original n64 Smash Bros, I could have reasonably seen Earthworm Jim being considered. He was a hot commodity at the time.

Yes. Mewtwo is fun to play as again, he feels a bit heavier than in Melee so he's not KO'd at 60% anymore like he used to be.

Mewtwo has no custom moves at all which is odd, and probably means all future DLC characters won't have customs. I wish Mewtwo also had his Mega-Evo X as his Final Smash but oh well.

I gave my Wii U Mewtwo code to my nephew, but I played a bit of him on 3DS and he seems cool for sure.

If that DLC character leak turns out to be true it will be MASSIVELY disappointing in ways I cannot describe.

Why do you think that? I personally would rather Ryu stay with the MVC/SF fighting games.

Someone needs to stop Sakurai from flooding Smash with Fire Emblem characters. This is getting ridiculous now. Especially since we also have a new 3DS and Wii-U Fire Emblem coming which means we're likely getting another new Fire Emblem rep in Smash 5 on the next console whenever that is as well.

I enjoyed playing as Mewtwo on my 3DS this morning, looking forward to trying him on Wii-U later tonight. Haven't made use of his Final Smash yet.
I get that we've got Mega Evolutions that tie into the current generation's Pokemon games, but man, I'd have loved to see him sport the armor from the first Pokemon flick, just going bezerk.

I never really played Smash on 3DS or Wii U fully since, i just watched the CPUs play each other against my Fox Amiibo.

I wanted to see if my Level 50 Fox Amiibo could beat Level 9 MewTwo, And of course my Fox won. hahah.
