Especially when it's predecessor did them better.

You seem to be under the assumption that everyone's seen the predecessor. Not everyone has. For some, it may be their first exposure to the franchise.

What point are you trying to make exactly?

Sorry, I don't understand what you're saying. Did you mean I beat you to it?
Maybe I'm using that phrase wrong, What I mean't was even though I'm a fan of 2k3 more I wouldn't say this particular episode is bad or that even 2k3 did it better.

TMNT is a cartoon based on a comic based on a cartoon based on another comic at this point.

Kinda like how 4kids adapted stories that the first live-action movie did 12 years prior?

Again, different medium. There's nothing wrong with the same stories being told in different forms: comic books, live action movies, animated series.

Though I suppose it has been long enough now that today's kids are young enough that they hadn't seen the 4Kids series when it aired. I guess more time has gone by than it feels like.

This is why it's always refreshing to see some new material added to the franchise. What has the Nick series brought? I can't recall except for a few. Dream Beavers, Bellybomb, Salamandrians, Creepweed and Tiger Claw. They're all a little underutilized though, except for Tiger Claw.

Bellybomb isn't new he was in Archie. And you forgot ICK, Kraang Prime, Kraang Sub Prime, Dr Rockwell, Pigeon Pete, Fish Face. Snake Weed, and Spider Bytes.

+ there have been plenty of new stories & character twists. The show has definitely made it's mark.

The Nick cartoon has introduced a ton of new mutants and characters at this point. Are we watching the same show?

Season 1 is pretty good afterwards is when they started getting carried away with the homages.

New to animation then. And I was asking who else were original characters, so thank you.

And what do most of those characters have in common? They're underutilized. When was the last time we saw Snake Weed or Spider Bytes? That underground racing episode where they were literally used as set dressing? And where the heck is Fish Face? I honestly can't remember.

Saying that this show isn't unique is a bit wrong. It has some major moments--

>Splinter is killed by Shredder.
>Karai is mutated.
>Karai/Shredder/Splinter

Most of the new characters they've introduced are filler, yeah, but I don't really remember the 2003 series introducing too many good 'new characters' either, besides Agent Bishop of course.
