Why wouldn't the letters be a little dated? He probably hasn't been getting a flood of on-topic letters since shortly after the initial announcement about digital distribution.

What other possible reason could there for not wanting to deal with Diamond than not wanting to deal with Diamond?! He didn't mention only deadlines, but other things, such as the long wait between getting the book finished and getting fan-feedback on it, which I completely understand.

A lot of times I agree with you on these things or at least see where you're coming from, but you're going out of your way to be anti-Laird on this one.

BTW, as far as eBay sellers go, I really have no gripes. I have seen a lot of the NYCC NECA turtle sets up on eBay going for high pices, but these items aren't available to the mass public. So in a way, they are doing a service to those that may have missed out. Yes a premium is paid, but all in all, it gives some people a chance to gain what they missed out on. If those people are willing to pay a higher price for it, its none of our business to critisize.

*sigh* Despite what you may think, I'm not anti-Laird.

I was just pointing out that forgoing Diamond didn't exactly speed up the overall process very much. According to Murphy the art for this issue (and #30) was complete by around New Years. Ok, the letters are understandably dated, but the responses are just as dated... how long have Clinton and Obama been the only Democratic nominees? None of that points to there really being a decreased amount of time between the completion date and the distribution date, which, as you pointed out, was half the point of doing it this way.

That said, I'm sure the next issue will be extremely current and will, this time without a doubt, have a rant with my name on it. Alas...

Laird claims that once an issue is finished, it will go up within the week. I believe him. The wait on issue 29, however, is obviously because they've been putting up volume 4 on Wowio and they want to give enough time for people to read them that have never read them (potential new readers), so both old and new readers are waiting for 29 when it hits (potential new buyers). Likewise, we'll probably have to wait at least a month before 30 (I hope so anyway, I know I couldn't afford buying a 10 dollar hard copy more often than that, with all my other expenses). So we can't make claims on speed just yet, in my opinion.

Admittedly though, I'm actually a little worried that it might instead slow things down. If he doesn't have to scramble to finish for Diamond and can just write on it when he wants, whose to say that it doesn't become tri-monthly or quarterly or something? And Peter hasn't really given a time-frame on these because of that reason, so he can do it as fast or as slow as he wants.

Whatever the overall speed, I think it'll definitely be haphazzard (like 2 issues back-to-back, then 6 months, then 2 months, then the next 5 issues monthly, than a three month wait, etc), but I hope I'm wrong.

How does that work? Where is Wowio generating revenue from? Ads?

Lifelock, Vonage, Celsias...maybe more?

They pay WOWIO to advertise on the comics. WOWIO pays royalties to Mirage for every issue that is downloaded. Because so many people download the books, the above companies pay alot of money for advertising. In response, the probably see their profits or revenues go up. It is a win win win.

Well, that was a completely different post. I'll just say that I'd be more willing to accept that Peter's motives had absolutely nothing to do with Kevin if the two of them were actually on speaking terms. And as I said before, I do 100% believe that Peter also thinks that the new version is superior to the old, as he pretty much said in #29.

I agree that the process is likely to get much smoother/faster for future releases.

I got mine in the mail the other day. Pretty spiffy, glad to see the comic is back in full swing. I was hoping more would have happened with the huge gap in between issues but it picked right up where it left off so that's good. I enjoyed it, now i want to re-read the other ones so I'm all caught up.

Actually, it has. Someone posted on Murphy's blog saying that they got it. I've sent him an email asking for a better picture of it.

Here's my #29 autograph from Peter Laird I got at NYCC:


As you can see, there isn't any date or time (does that make me special? ), but I remember him doing the sketch after the NECA signing from 1:00-3:00 pm. Its somewhere b/e 3:00 to 4:30 pm to my understanding and was done on April 19.

Maybe lack of time stamp is how he's differentiating from the one's sold on the website. Not that it would really make much difference, since the time stamp would tell you if it was or not.
