First, I'd like to say i support Apritello, I like the relationship between them. Second, I'd like it if one of the TMNT characters was gay, like Mikey or Tiger Claw but it's just wishful thinking.

I've been reading through the thread and I noticed some people don't approve of April and Donnie being a pair just because is human(Well, mostly human) and Donnie is an anthro turtle. It kind of reminds of my this strangely.

The point is, it's a very silly reason why April and Donnie shouldn't be together.

Eh, well, the creators already created a back door with April not being 100% human, so really, why would they create such a storyline if it isn't to be used to explore Donny and April more? I also wonder if more people are against this because in most other incarnations, April gets with Casey in the end, and maybe some people don't like that kind of a change to the stories. Me, I'm like, bring it. It was always an idea played with since I can remember, and now we have a group of creators with the balls to maybe go through with it.

I was just wondering, if this pairing was to become actually official, how could you see this playing out?

i 100% believe that storyboard, which to me, makes me think april and donnie will be official.

however, i also think that, while they may last awhile, they will eventually "break up" or something and that by the end of the series, april and casey will be together. in this way, the creators went the whole donnie/april relationship route, while still having april/casey true to tmnt at the end

I think it will be official too, personally I believe a lot of people think it will, whether they think it positive or negative. It's just we've been waiting for what will finally get it going that route.

I think the "Donnie being the leader" angle in the finale is that.

YES, THIS. I don't see why every TV show/movie these days must have a token gay character, or be assumed to be gay simply because they don't show romantic interest in anyone. I consider it ironic that modern media is expected to portray diversity, but to have a character with no romantic inclinations or sex drive? Pfft, preposterous.

Either that or every character has to have a love interest. Not everyone has someone in their lives and a lot of people are fine with that just as there are people who are in relationships but who aren't married for their own reasons. It just seems like in this day and age you either have to be in a relationship and if you aren't, you're automatically assumed to be gay and if you're single, that's assumed to be wrong or something.

But if they do go the April/Donnie route, I'm all for that as April/Casey has been the norm enough and it's time for something different if there must be some sort of relationship at all.

I consider her to be asexual, if you really want to get into the fringes. We don't have enough of those characters at all, a person is often assumed to always have attraction to a gender, and if they don't then a lot of times they are considered a freak.

I actually went through that in high school. I didn't know it, not that I cared, but my best friend informed me of it. He told me that many people thought I was a lesbian because I wasn't boy crazy.

That wasn't the question though. It was a hypothetical. I was curious what Donnie x April fans thought and what scenarios could put them together if the show actually goes there.

Hmmmm, to be honest, I have never really seen a romance play out in a cartoon. So I have no idea what to expect. Most I see happening, since it is a kids show, is holding hands and a quick peck. And I really don't see this show going past their lives into adult hood, so when it ends, it's just going to leave things up in the air for us as the viewers to contemplate what happens.

Personally though, I'd love it if they did the Spider-Man 2 route, at the end, where instead of April getting married, she's at her prom, with Casey or some other guy as her date, and then just before she gets crowned homecoming queen or something like that, she has second thoughts and runs to Donny, and the series ends where they are together, and Leo calls out to him to get ready for some more crime fighting, and April tells him "I'll be waiting for you! Now go get em tiger!"

I don't see Donnie and April really being on until the end. The pair may be official but there it going to be a number of on-again, off-again moments.

For example this board is of Donnie saying good-bye. After all after losing the lair, nearly losing Splinter and/or Leo, and having to look after the team. I doubt Donnie emotionally can take another loss at that time. So whatever the music box situation may be, Donnie has concluded that April doesn't see him the way he wishes she would. So he's probably thinking that it's best to just end everything between him and April himself before he suffers heartbreak.

However April kissing him is her way of saying "Don't give up on me just yet." There are things that are going to happen to Casey that will drive April to Donnie.
There are things that are going to happen to Donnie that would drive April to Casey. There may even be a moment or too where Casey does confront April who she actually has feelings for.

Fortunately Casey isn't a jerk like the Shredder is, though I can see a villain of some sort forcing Casey to fall into his jealousy and anger. So that way he feels he's making those who hurt him pay. But then at the end when April has made her choice, the other suitor stands aside and accepts it.

Well Mr. Strawman there is a pretty simple reason why LGBT people want to see themselves in all media. We exist. Adding an LGBT character might seem contrived but I find it much more contrived that no one apparently is queer in this world that is being created. There is no natural reasons why character's can't be diverse, the creators have to choose, consciously or subconsciously, everything about this world they are creating.

You may see people wanting representation and think it only applies to people like me, adult fans, but the series are primarily for kids. Whether they are out yet or still don't understand it, there are GLBT children also watching these show and seeing representations that matter to them are important. It validates their identities and boosts self-confidence. It combats homophobia and transphobia they may absorb in their daily lives.

Beyond LGBT kids, representations of LGBT people in cartoons helps break down stereotypes kids learn young and helps humanize an oppressed group. Teaching tolerance not through hamfisted PSAs or lessons of the week but through creating relatable, likeable characters you start to care about.

Introducing gay characters now is the hot topic like introducing token black characters used to be back in the 80's.

I remember back then every show had to add a token black guy just so there was racial diversity in shows. Now people don't mention black/asian/spanish, etc. representation as its moved on to LGBT people.
